If you're saying you want to use your Verizon phone on Alltel, unless you know how to re-flash the phone, your best bet is to see what Alltel can do to get the phone working on their network. It's possible, but not easy (unless you really know what you're doing).

I looked at the results of your poll and wonder if it simply reflects what people are using and satisfied with. You asked for reeasons why but I did not see them, may just not know how to follow the thread.

Well I knew I wasn't going to get a response from absolutely everyone, ;)

but the point of "reasons why" for their choice is so we can all see
what we like about our cell service, and what we don't.

    ...........

Also, the reason I said "available in your area" is so that
people can't choose their dream carrier, so to speak, which doesn't serve their area.

For example, I know a lot more people would've picked Alltel,
but Alltel doesn't cover a lot of the bigger cities, which is where many WA members are. :)

I see that AT&T is the #1 carrier. I have AT&T, but I haven't really looked around at any of the other providers. I used to work at a Marketing Firm, while there, I represented AT&T to every business (non-corporate) in the state. I really enjoyed it, but I noticed a lot of things that AT&T try to hide from their customers. Im sure all of the other providers are the same way though. I just dont think we can really trust any of them. They'll all just rob us blind if they can.

I live in the Southwest part of Virginia and Alltel has to be the best wireless carrier in my area. I have tried Cellular One which is now AT&T but Alltel is much better hands down..:)

I voted Alltel because they have worked great for me for several years (since it was 360 Communications here) Years ago at work I had to choose a carrier to get phones for the guys and had them each carry a different carrier to try out (Airtouch (Now Verizon), Sprint and AT&T) I chose the company that worked for our needs and Alltel did that along with having wonderful customer service to deal with when the guys would give me back a destroyed phone. :)

My new job has me with a Verizon phone but I kept Alltel for my personal because of MyCircle and the CS.

Unless you're stuck in a contract this seems like a silly question with a result that is no surprise.

With that said I'm almost eight years with T-Mobile (actually six years with T-Mobile and two with VoiceStream which became T-Mobile.)

T-Mobile has always worked well for me and works 95% of the time for me where I need it to work. My place is only four blocks from the nearest base station so I always get good performance at home. On the street I generally have great coverage. In eight years of service I can probably count the number of times I've been dropped on one hand.

Actually, I got into T-Mobile sort of at the recommendation of my sister who's on Orange overseas a GSM provider. At the time the only national GSM provider in the US was VoiceStream (which became T-Mobile.) SIM cards are great and I can have any phone I want just by switching SIMs.

With great service, a contract is more of a good thing than a bad thing, IMO. ;)

Anyway the reason for this thread was to compare the goods and bads about your favorite carrier
with other WA users, and it's turned out great so far. :D

    ...

For me, Alltel has been with me just over 2 years now and I'm so happy with the service and coverage I receive,
the Sprint and Verizon combined roaming in many places, along with My Circle.
The only con I have with Alltel is no street level coverage maps...

Verizon would be my 2nd choice if I lived in a non-Alltel market, and T-Mobile would be 3rd, AT&T for me is 4th.
Hard for me to decide between T-Mobile's Faves & AT&T's larger coverage area.

Considering the market penetration that wireless has had for some time now in the US most people have already figured out what works best for them and already are signed up with their preferred carrier. I've had the same carrier for the past 7 & 1/2 years.

Most folks I know have had their carrier for years now. I've been using Verizon primarily for the last three years without any major issues; my aunt has been using MetroPCS ever since they launched in Atlanta (around 2000) while my uncle has had them for the last 4 or 5 years. Even my buddies on the Sprint network have been on them since the late 1990's.

But then again, some people have done such things as "switch for a phone." I know a whole lot of people who were satisfied with what they were using (T-Mobile and Verizon) and then switched to T because of T's exclusivity with the iFone. Generally Verizon's a better network, but if you wanted the iFone you didn't have a choice you had to go with T.

I also know alot of people satisfied with their carrier for quite some time.

But there are also some people I know that look around for a new carrier,
especially for prepaid, and in markets with Cricket or MetroPCS.

Cricket and MetroPCS would be a whole lot better, IMO, if they offered free roaming.

I chose Verizon primarily because of the coverage. I'm a student at UW and Verzion by far has the best coverage on campus.

I chose Verizon because it's the only one that works everywhere I need it. I like AT&T's handsets becuase of the freedom to use Java apps vs. the locked down BREW handsets VZW uses. However, AT&T, and others, are just paperweights at my house.

I don’t really have a Carrier preference, I have more of a Technology preference. I really like the UMA technology that T-Mobile provides and therefore voted for them.

I switched from T-Mobile to Sprint. Both had their strengths and weaknesses:

    SPRINT

PROS = Great Network Coverage, Good Call Clarity (even when 0-1 bars), SERO Plan Features & Pricing (not available to new customers anymore), Subsidized Phone Selection (at least it's better than T-Mobile's). :thumb:

CONS = Initial Order Issues (messed up my web order and signed me up to wrong plan), Customer Service (many reps who are ignorant, unhelpful, have no idea what they're doing... only a few who are competent and efficient), Billing Issues (only with the first couple bills, then no problems after that), Subsidized Phone Pricing (seems significantly higher than other carriers for new activations... at least when I signed up). :censored:

    T-MOBILE

PROS = No Order Issues, No Billing Issues, Superb Customer Service (truly one of the best I have ever dealt with in my entire life... almost ALL reps are competent, efficient, and extremely friendly and empathetic to your problems). :thumb:

CONS (sort of) = OK Network Coverage (good on major highways, populated areas, outdoors... varies off major roads, in suburban/rural areas, and indoors), OK Call Clarity (good when full bars and not using AMR-HR, but poor when 0-1 bars and/or using AMR-HR), Good Plan Features & Pricing (but not as good as SERO), Subsidized Phone Selection (is seriously lacking... even with the G1). :dunno:

Honestly, if it wasn't for SERO, and if I didn't have the patience, time, and determination to get SERO and solve my problems, I wouldn't be with Sprint. For a while I regretted my decision and instinctively thought of returning to T-Mobile, but eventually after my first 2 months almost all (if not all) the problems I had with Sprint finally got sorted out and I have been very satisfied since then (mostly because I didn't have to deal with Sprint's Customer Service for anything anymore :loony: ).

AT&T, it has served me best in all areas that I frequent most. If it failed I would have gone to the next best carier that serves the areas I frequent.
