Wirelessly posted (Samsung i600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE) Opera 7.60 [en]) I stopped in to the Acura dealer to get an idea on the cost to replace a headlight. I knew they were pretty expensive, but, $800! Am I the only one appalled at this? They told me this was one of the less expensive lights.
That is what you get for buying a foreign car. If you had a domestic, it only would have cost $750. :browani:

your first problem was going to the dealer, yes HID lighting is expensive but you can do better if you go to an aftermarket place or body shop and yes you can also request original parts there too. You can also shop online for your part and just take it to a mechanic or body shop to have it install. What model is it?

I have a '01 Acura CL TypeS, which has the same Xenon HID and the replacement lamp is $131.76 and the ignitor is $396.10 at the Acura dealer. Is your ignitor shot? That is pretty rare.
Well, what the dealer told me is that they would probably just replace the light and see what happens. If that doesn't work, then they would replace the ignitor. My guess is that they would just replace everything and tell me thats is what was needed. I have a local shop I use that I'm going to get a quote from.
Well, it could be worse... I spent the better part of yesterday removing the driver's seat from my 1986 Honda Civic Si because the right side bolts had both come off. I was intending to just bolt it back to the mounting rail but the area where the back bolt secures itself to the seat had been ripped out and there was no where to bolt it back in. I called the Honda dealer and asked how much a replacement seat was, they told me $1,000! I asked how much the bottom part of the seat was and they said $550-$600 depending on the VIN. HOLY I only paid $500 for the car... this weekend I'll be calling and visiting junk yards. Yes, $800 is a lot for a headlight but your car is four years old and mine is nineteen... I can't believe a seat costs $1,000! I'm glad I'm going to school to become a mechanic... based on these prices I'll be rich!
go to www.acurazine.com there is a cl section there, you will prob get better answers there. its a great community

Wirelessly posted (Samsung i600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE) Opera 7.60 [en]) My guess is that the ignitor is probably ok. I am thinking this because the light will come on, dim, for a little while before going out. If the ignitor were bad I assume the light would not come on at all.
Those darn lights are distracting and hurt my eyes. Should be banned imo. Yup, lights are rediculously priced. It was 700ish for our Avenger's to be replaced (insurance covered it due to a lady hitting us...but 700 is still crazy). To get the bulbs replaced (ie when they go bad), my dad just takes ones from the plant lol, for some reason they have all kinds of bulbs though the factory only makes Durangos. Free>800
I have a Verizon Beach chair you can saw the legs off and duck tape it down...I'll send it to you for free if you send me back pictures of you driving around in it...
Wirelessly posted (Samsung i600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE) Opera 7.60 [en]) Well, I finally got the light fixed. I went back to the dealer and asked that they replace only what needed it and not to just replace all three components. They said they would do that, and, they did. It was just the light so the total cost was just under $200.
