My first post and it's a question, how typical ;)

I know how to activate the phone: My Account > ESN > Change it > Wait > *228 Option 1

However, this phone doesn't have verizon's software installed on it, it's a CDMA phone I purchased off ebay. Will this effect the phone options in anyway? Or, will I have to have to install the Verizon UI on top of the xv6700 interface. /shiver

My only complaint with VZW is the fact that you have to use their bloatware to access anything. (Get it Now).

Verizon will only activate it if the ESN is registered to Verizon, i.e. if that phone was sold through verizon. As far as the UI and so forth, the xv6700 is a PDA so there is no "get it now" or Vzw UI for it, you have to sign up for a different plan with verizon as it's not a BREW phone, at least if you want to use Data.

I've known people on other forums that have purchased phones from wireless imports and they've been able to register with Verizon online with no issue, so I'm not sure if that's the case or what to think with that?

The auction was listed as : AUDIOVOX XV6700 PDA XV 6700 WIFI CAMERA PHONE VERIZON . THIS PHONE HAS A CLEAN ESN AND HAS BEEN TESTED THIS PHONE IS GUARANTEED TO WORK WITH VERIZON
(Caps aren't mine, I just copied the auction description)

I'm already on the America's Choice 1k minute plan. What would I need to add to allow this phone to use data?

Thanks for your time and all your help with this.

This is my first foray into actually buying a phone from someone other than my carrier.

Awsome nKrypte, but I did see those on the site. No where did they hint that I'd be able to keep my wife's phone on the plan (we currently have the family plan).

    Any ideas?

I'm simply not knowledgeable enough about verizon to answer this, please wait for a response I'm sure someone who is a bit more knowledgeable will respond.

you can add the phone to your family plan by just adding data as an add on, or you can sign up for pay as you go data which is very costly. I had pay as you go charges over 100.00 one month so I know have set up a bogus network connection so it cannot connect to data.

Just make sure they don't extend your contract. They aren't supposed to, but better to be safe......
