    Hmm....

Which receiver and set up(direct, wireless, etc.) do you have in your car Shizam?

I have heard that if you use wireless by tuning to a certain non-broadcasting station on your receiver and car radio the quality will be worse and you might have some static/feedback.

  2. that's what I thought, which was why I was going to opt for the direct wired connection to my head unit. its about $30 more to install with best buy if they do it, though. I don't know which I want to do now.

So, where do I start to clarify the mis-information posted here:

    1) Xm has cursing jsut like Sirius. There are censored and uncensored channels.

    2) The comment about the demographic based on commercials on XM was funny, but way off. That is just demonstrative that what you listen to is the same as those truck drivers you mentioned. There are lots of channels and each one that has commercials are like anything else, targeted at the demo for that genre/subject.

    3) City coverage (urban canyons). You will have better urban coverage from XM. The network design difference is that Sirius went with 3 moderately powered satellites and a few hundred terrestrial repeaters for filling in the 'holes' in urban canyons. XM uses 2 HS-702 satellites from Hughes which are the most powerful commercial birds ever built. They couple that with nearly 1,000 terrestrial repeaters that were strategically placed to ensure no greater than a 750' outage in Tier 1 and 2 metro areas. That measurement is based on the forward sampling of the radio/receiver chipset.

    4) XM sound quality is poor and will never improve...what is that subjective statement based on? You're probably using an FM modulator or something.

21 22 and 2-3 others are owned by clear channel. They screwed XM and put commercials on. Tell them to turn it on other channels, I certainly don't listen to those channels either. Andy, if they listen to 22, tell them to turn it to 26. 26 is better and XM run, and thus commercial free. It's better than MIX was, even when MIX was commercial free.

Profanity is only heard on a few channels on XM. It does bother me a little bit, but I understand why. 47/48 the newer rock stations curse a lot, which is fine. Top Hits don't exactly need it IMO anyway.

I like XM a lot better. Sirius has really shallow play lists which gets old. When I listen to it on sat TV, my friends and I get sick of it quickly (I've heard the same song 3 times in one hour before). Xm has better coverage too. XM uses Geo stationary sat's, so I can get coverage inside usually. Sirius' move in a figure-8, and thus a window might only get coverage from 6-9am for instance (my mom's work). I can get XM service at my house, my dorm room, last year's dorm, and almost any building with a window, which is nice. I can't get that with Sirius, and that's why I chose XM.

I had that happen to me. I heard the same song on Area 33 yesterday that I heard a few days before. It does not bother me since I have not heard a majority of these songs.

The reason that I chose Sirius vs. XM is that XM dance stations that I listened to during a three day free online trial played dance music that I already have and that has been out for a few years or more. Sirius's dance stations play songs that I have yet to hear and are new to me. IMO, they also have more songs from artists such as Paul van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, DJ Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Darude, and others.

I also like listening to the NFL games.

So those are the reasons why I chose Sirius instead of XM.

I like XM 26 but if I hear that Blue October song one more time I may scream.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually discovered XM Channel 26 last week after I posted this, and we have been listening to that at work ever since. Like you said, and I agree, it is much better music and commercial free, which is important to us as a business.
I did not know that Clear Channel operated some stations on XM...I don't hold them in high regards anymore- they've screwed over their Salt Lake City stations as well.
I believe that our receiver is installed outside on the wall, and our XM does indeed cut out, especially during the evening hours...it's not so bad during the day, but at night, it's often unbearable.

LoL....Andy, I won't even get into how horrible Clear Channel is with radio and how they are the reason it is being driven right into the ground  ....anyhow..sorry about that! ;) I didn't know CC had so much control of XM.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I'm no expert in Radio(even though I'm quite interested in it) but all Clear Channel radio stations seem to change names/formats a lot and D.J.'s are in and out all the time.

Most DJ's on CC radio stations...epsecially in smaller markets...are voicetracked. Most of the time the DJ's are not even in the city they are broadcasting. They are sitting in a studio somewhere else....recording their breaks....usually a day or more ahead of time.

I listened to XM 22 the other day just out of curiosity -- and they totally had commercials all over the place! In their defence, though (and it ain't much of one), it does say something like MIX 22 (cm) on the station name display.

I switched back to 26. And I love me some Fred, Ethel and Lucy.

I'm with you there. My cycle is 47, 48, 54, 20-22, 26, 30 for most music. I listen to a lot of talk news, 121-168 everything from Fox, BBC, CNN, CBS NPR, you name it.

And of course my go to 150 for uncensored comedy. Oh, and 116 when the kids are in the car.
