Wisconsin Senate Passes Bill to Ban Texting While Driving

The Senate of the US state of Wisconsin has passed two bills which affect using a mobile phone while driving. The first bill bans the use of mobile phones while driving a bus, which mirrors laws passed in several US states.

The second bill would impose a ban on all motorists sending text messages while driving, although voice calls would still be permitted.

However, the bills still need to pass the Assembly to become law, and there is no schedule in the Assembly's calendar for them to be debated before the annual session ends this week.

The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two comprise the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin.

Earlier this week, an attempt to ban texting while driving was rejected in the US state of Maryland.

Interesting. I wonder how the police would go about enforcing the ban?

I have said it once and will say it again. This should be a federal law.

If there is an accident they can request the subjects billing records as part of the investigation. This would of course indicate the type of usage, if any at the time of a crash. Other than that, the police must make an observation.
