A huge Thank You to all the members and moderators who contributed over the years! My intention is to shut down all of the site on March 15, 2023. It has come to a point where it would cost too much in effort and money to upgrade the underlying software to keep it running smoothly and securely. I think it is better to shut down while it is still functioning versus just disappearing when something breaks and can't be easily fixed. We started early and had a good run! Joe
Thank you, Joe for WA! I haven’t used it in a long time. When active, back in the day, i had huge fun with the forums and the people on it, and our discussions. Yes, it was a good run. Best, Viewfly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It'll be a sad day, but understandable. I check in when I get a summary email, but clearly it's not what it was. I enjoyed the time when we had a lot of activity. Than you!
Sad news... @JFB Of course, we understand. But I invite you to create a category in our telecomhall community... (It's a free community, with the sole purpose of helping everyone in Telecom and IT). You can be an admin and/or moderator there. Please let me know.
Sad for sure, but it seems the excitement of new phones has died out quite a bit. I started going to https://androidforums.com/ It's currently Android phones, but they have brought up adding iPhone and changing the name. It stays fairly active.
I'll be a few months shy of being a member for 20 years when we shut down. That's...kind of incredible, given what the internet was like in the early aughts. What an amazing run, Joe! Thank you for building such an incredible resource!
Thanks, Joe, for everything throughout the years. This site was such a fantastic resource while wireless was in its infancy (compared to today). I’ve notice a lot of decreased traffic, including my own, at a number of forums. Reddit has almost everything, or perhaps even too much. But again, thanks for everything throughout the years to Joe, fellow mods, and the users. Made some lifelong friends here!! ❤️
Thank you Joe for Wireless Advisor and for your guidance through the years, I loved every minute of it. I made some great friends and a few enemies as well. Best wishes and good luck in your future endeavor/s.
I was just chatting with a coworker this morning about our "industry" collection of coffee cups, and mentioned my wirelessadvisor mug, and how much time I used to spend on this site. He and I were both in the wireless Industry starting in the mid 90s, and he was impressed by the existence of that mug. I'm still in telecom , not specifically wireless any longer, but will look back fondly on the many hours spent reading and posting here. Thanks for this little corner of the Internet @JFB , you did a great job building a community. At one point I was responsible for managing an open source telecom community forum, and I can tell you it is a lot of work not only moderating, but just keeping the infrastructure running, while combating spam and straw men post on a regular basis. Not easy stuff. Joe, not sure what you are going to do with all your free time now, best of luck.
It has been nearly a decade since my last post, and nearly two decades since I joined the forum on Oct 21, 2003. Hours and hours and hours of refreshing this forum to see new posts and tower pic posts. Sad to see it go, for sure. But I totally understand that it's time. A lot of my early internet (pre-social media) stuff is right here in this forum. Friends, it has been an honor!
It's a sad day, but I'll always have fond memories of what this place used to be and I've made good friends here, so I'm very grateful to you Joe for making that possible — and of course all the people who participated over the years — thank you! Sent from my Pixel 7 Pro using Tapatalk
I figured the time would come eventually as wireless has changed a lot over time and so has the internet. So many great memories and fun times. Bye everyone.
Would love to see how much of the site can be archived on WayBack or something. This site was definitely an excellent resource and historic repository.
Hey, just wanted to login and let you know that everything is being archived by the ArchiveBot ran by the ArchiveTeam. The whole site should be archived and uploaded to the wayback machine so nothing is lost!
Joe, from someone that had been a part of the forums early on (Fire14) and had to leave for personal reasons. Since then, I made it up the ranks to Battalion Chief, and retired after 33 years in 2021 and now live in Citrus County Florida. I have to say it was a real honor to be a part of this community and to meet a great group of people that have knowledge beyond what I had, and taught me so much about Cell phones, the towers, frequencies etc... I did come back as a new member but noticed not much was happening anymore and lost my way. I am sure it's a huge undertaking running a forum as well as you did & wish you and everyone else here a great a prosperous life. I honestly can't say enough good things about everyone I met here on the forums, we had a lot of fun and great discussions. Tom G
I was informed today that the forums were being sunsetted. Thought I'd log on after many years and bid farewell. There were many great memories and friends made here. All good things come to an end, with that said goodbye and take care! ✌️
The forum first fed my wireless curiosity. I understand that it’s time to go, just a little sad. However, it is nice making some life long friends along the way.
I really had fun posting here, back in the heyday. I now live along the Canadian border, where only Verizon has service and T-Mobile is putting equipment on the one tower in town. There are a handful of interesting places left in wireless, but far fewer than there were. For most people, it's a reliable utility they don't even think about, phones are pretty much all the same, and there aren't competing standards anymore. A lot has changed in the world of wireless (much for the better, some for the worse). This place had a great community. I haven't checked in often, but made some good friends here. Stay in touch.
