Can anyone suggest the best carrier for coastwise cruising on the East Coast from Florida to the Canadian border? I know from experience that my SprintPCS phone is useless in most of coastal Maine. Verizon seems to be building into Maine, but the coverage maps don't look very good. I am considering ATT - any better ideas?

Yes. I would most definantly keep your Sprint phone. Because if need be you can always force roam if need be - therefore using US Cellular, or Verizon.

And you should look into getting a antenna for better signal. You should get a Wilson Antenna so that you can get better signal in more places. I think they are called whip antennas.

When I was in the USCG and stationed on a 270 out of Portsmouth I used Sprint. The coverage was spotty in places obviously, but as the restrictions on cell phone use when deployed anyway are ... "heavy".... I didn't get much use out of it the 8 years i was in.
