I go to windsor all of the time, once you go farther like an hour out towards toronto, you get all digital roamoing throughout the rest of canada

 

Hi Hman, Nextel recently extended its service to Canada via a roaming agreement with Canadian wireless provider, TELUS MobilityTM. So if you’re bound for Canada, you can now take advantage of TELUS Mobility’s MikeTM Network which operates with continuous coverage from Windsor to Quebec City including Ottawa. I don't think there is a US service provider that can offer that amount of digital coverage.

Not only do you get to take along your Nextel phone and same number when you travel to Canada, but just like on Nextel’s National Network, you also benefit from having all of your Nextel digital cellular calling features and services, including Voice Mail and text & numeric messaging, follow you wherever you travel on TELUS Mobility's Mike Network.

And, Nextel’s pricing structure, including no roaming and one second rounding, free incoming calls also travels to Canada. This means home airtime rates follow you across the border and a local call is still a local call. In addition, a single, flat rate has been established for long distance calls within Canada and to the United States.

 

Interesting. Last time I was in Windsor with my Cingular ST7897, I was roaming on digital. Maybe it was the only signal available at my location?

 

Roger's AT&T Wireless has the largest footprint in Canada. I have added the Canada option for $19.99 to my AT&T One Rate plan and so my One Rate plan (including 1000 N/W minutes) effectively now becomes a US & Canada nationwide One Rate plan! No ROAMING NOR LONG DISTANCE calling to and from OR within the US & Canada.

I have received excellent coverage in the southern ontario area: Windsor, London, Kitchener/Waterloo, Toronto ... with digital roaming on Roger's AT&T.

I have also received excellent digital coverage on Roger's AT&T network in Winnipeg/Manitoba, Edmonton/Alberta and Calgary/Alberta.

The great thing is that I can take this Canada plan off or add it to my One Rate plan whenever I what. Great for those once in a blue-moon trips to Canada where I can simply add the Canada plan for a particular billing cycle.

 

If you roam into the US territory, does it charge you US dollars? And if I roam into canada, does it cost me 1/3 or current exch rate?

You pay your bill in local currency.

If you're billed in the US, that's US dollars. If you're billed in Canada, that's Canadian dollars.

If you're paying the $.69 per minute (Verizon) roaming rate for Canada, that's US cents.

 

I use VOICESTREAM and it roams on Microcell; no problem same frequency band and same technology GSM.

 

Rich, are you a Nextel marketing guy or something? That sounded like a canned marketing speech. Or did you just copy/paste from their web site ?

Yes, and then Microcell (aka Fido) double-charge you. Bloody gits. And that CAD$6.95 "network access fee" blows copiously.

 

Microcell is in bankruptcy so they need the money bad.
