I am reading mixed opinion about the performance of One Note, anyone have any input on this? I am presuming my bookmark will be carried over? MS decided I didn't mean it when I chose the "update later", so it's updating now. Sent from my iPhone 6 using Tapatalk
Never used One Note. To keep track of things I use Google calendar. I have all my bookmarks on Firefox and Mozilla has a snyc for that.
Has anyone tried have one.to install a 3rd party Media Center since Windows 10 doesn't have one. I just tried Kodi, which works great in Linux, but their Windows version doesn't work with Windows 10.
The update process was smooth but unfortunately it broke my iCloud sync, Mail, and Calendar. I was able to un install, reboot, reinstall the Calendar, Mail, People app but not the iCloud sync. A couple of my apps, Moon Phase and Weather stopped updating but opening the app took care of that. I rolled it back to 8.1 and will try my utmost to stay there until I have a good handle what will not work. On 8.1 the Calendar, Mail and people app crashed as well and I went the uninstall reboot reinstall route. I could repair and re install iCloud sync on 8.1
I just read an article that users of Win10 expecting to play a DVD or BlueRay will be sadly surprised. It doesn't come stock in Win10. You have to pay additional and even then what it get is very rudimentary.
DVD and BluRay playback didn't come stock in Windows 8/8.1, so what is so surprising about it not being in Windows 10.??? Either you have software already that came with your PC or laptop, or it came with retail version of a drive upgrade, or you bought the software you preferred for an OEM drive upgrade. I am getting little windows popping up wanting me to buy Microsoft Office. I use Libre Office https://www.libreoffice.org/ I don't like auto download of updates. I went and downloaded the ATI drivers for my HTPC and a window popped up saying updates were installed and I need to reboot. I rebooted and Windows 10 installed the ATI drivers. I have no idea if it did it automatically or it did it from my download. I like to have control over that.
I wouldn't be surprised if MS went back to giving the user the option to choose the updates to be installed. There are a lot of unhappy people when it comes to this new "feature". Sent from my iPhone 6+ using Tapatalk
Hmmm. I didn't know that. Yes, I bought an HP Envy laptop that has a video player in it. I assumed it was stock. You taught me something today. (I try to learn at least one thing every day.)
My second Windows 10 issue has popped up yesterday -- I lost audio output. Switching from the Conexant specific driver to a generic High Definition Audio driver has fixed the problem. I'm getting little windows prompting me upgrade to Office 365, at 50% off to boot
I was getting a little window popping up to remind me that Windows 10 was ready for me every time I logged in. So I finally gave up and decided to give it another try. It had two failed attempts and breezed through it the third time. The Calendar and Mail app just worked right from the beginning, I did struggle with the iCloud sync for a bit but was finally able to get it to work right. So far all the apps I have tried are working well, but I have not played with it enough. As others have mentioned I do not like the auto update popping up in the middle of my doing something, but other than that no complaints yet.
Windows 10 just automatically installed ATI Catalyst drivers on my laptop, which is fine since my laptop has a Radeon video chipset. I thought Windows 10 may have automatically installed the ATI Catalyst drivers on my HTPC after I downloaded them, but I think it just updated drivers.
My ATI Radeon 3000 driver was updated automatically last night on my desktop. Now my resolution is all messed up, and the proper resolution is not available. Sent from my iPhone 6+ using Tapatalk
I upgraded one PC in my house so far to test out Win10. Everything seems ok, except one video editor program suddenly wouldn't allow me to convert files anymore. It took me a couple of days, then I tried starting the program by doing right-click "Run as Administrator", and then it worked. I remember I had a similar problem with Wireshark when I installed Win7, it would run but wouldn't let me save files. It seems with each Windows release, they are requiring more Admin privileges to do things, I guess for security reasons, like "sudo" in Linux.
Just waiting for the chance to install. I received an alert on Saturday, But it was merely to reserve the new OS. lol
So after using my Surface 3 with Windows 10 extensively for 3 days, I am really liking it. I did change my mind and go back to 8.1 once but came back to 10 the next day. I had a couple apps crashing which was easily taken care of by un installing and re installing. At one point I outsmarted myself and almost killed it but was able to bring it back to the world of living again - whew! I really like everything about 10 in the Desktop mode but the Tablet mode feels unfinished and not well thought out, just as budney warned. One interesting problem I have is that iCloud syncs, amongst other things bookmarks with my iOS devices but it syncs with IE only not Edge. I can bring bookmarks over to Edge from IE but that results in duplicating previously imported bookmarks. I haven't spent much time on this but will much appreciate if anyone has an idea how to do an iCloud sync with Edge.
A public service announcement if you or someone you know is waiting to upgrade. There is a Windows 10 scam email going around. See this article: There's a fake Windows 10 upgrade email scam that could take over your computer
Finally upgraded yesterday (after numerous annoying suggestions from Microsoft). I'm actually impressed.
It is a good desktop OS for sure. I still find it to be a bit unfinished and buggy at times. I also have had to roll back my video card driver on my desktop, and as of yesterday my App Store will not open. I will be looking at doing a clean install this weekend, as none of the store fixes have worked for me. I am still running Win8 on my Asus tablet, Win10 tablet mode is atrocious IMHO. I am still hesitant to upgrade my desktop from windows 8 to windows 10. I use it for multiplayer PC gaming with a group of guys, and I have two ATI videocards setup in crossfire and I have no idea how they would run with directx 12, nor how any of my games would run.
To roll back Win10 is very easy. I upgraded my (low spec) netbook from Win7 to Win10, and it had alot of problems, so I rolled it back no sweat. Give it a try.
Rolling back is easy. I did it on my Asus tablet, and had no issues at all. But I am not sure I would take the chance with a gaming rig at this point. I would just wait until I knew that all the important drivers are good and stable, along with the games I am playing on it. Then do a clean install of win10. BTW, I did the clean install on my desktop last night. So far I am seeing programs, like WMP, running much better, and the newest display drivers are working better too. Anyone seen this screen before and/or know what caused it - other than Apple's revenge for neglecting my MBP PS: Everything is back to normal now thanks to the help from budney and Gamer
We know it's malware. My guess is the server for the site you were visiting was hacked and the real page was replace with what you see which was able to put malware on your Surface. To know more about it I would run a search using the second line on the blue screen starting with the hex number. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you google the number 8776677972 You'll find other who have had this happen. Seems like a ad scam: http://1-877-667-7972.callernotes.info/1-877-667-7972.number http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?p=47046120 http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-667-7972
I don't think you got malware during your install. That malware looks like the BSOD, which is what you probably got during your install. Two completely different things. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks KJ, I don't believe mine was related to the upgrade. I was on 10 for over 2 weeks before this popped up as I was browsing sites on how to customize the toolbar.
It's kind of like that hole Messenger had on Windows XP where ads would pop out on your screen telling you that you were infected.
