I'm a Verizon customer in western Kentucky. My Motorola RAZR V3m (in a case) apparently fell out of my pocket, and when found later, had either been stepped on or driven over, shattering the display.

Dare I buy a used V3m on eBay to replace it?

My concern is whether, if I buy another V3m -- even if the seller specifies that it will activate on Verizon -- that it really can be activated.

A year ago, I bought a used Motorola (non-RAZR) to replace one that wouldn't charge. I bought the same model, one that even had the Verizon logo on it. I called Verizon to request they transfer my service to the new (used) phone, and though the techs were very helpful, they couldn't do it. The first tech even transferred me to his supervisor, but still no luck.

I have 11 months to go until I can upgrade my phone for free with Verizon, and i don't want to invest in another used phone that might not work.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

    -Chuck

You have to watch with used CDMA phones. Even though the phone you purchased previously was a Verizon phone, if the previous owner of the phone had it disconnected for nonpayment Verizon will blacklist the phone and not activate it until that balance is paid. The best thing to do is if you spot a phone you are interested in email the seller and get the ESN#. Then call Verizon and ask them if they will activate that particular phone on your account. If they say no, then don't bid on the phone.

I did not know that. I would be pissed if that happened to me.
