Yea Rally they locked my 5185i's personal slots too. That is retarded, just because THEY can't make money off it....grr...ufone would be nice and would work for me if they didn't delete the slots. My local radioshacks have the T61c, try there rally though i am sure you have. Looks nice, but not a major improvement over my current phone. Verizon stores should sell them, they are kinda popular. Corey, yeah Verizon is the best.

your daddy- thanks for the post. since the post i've been going around getting info on phones and their prices. Yeah that saleswoman at the store was kind of unprofessional.
I actually know someone that is a reseller of verizon and he couldn't give me a good deal either. i don't know... is it because CDMA phones are more expensive to make? well in anycase i haven't had luck finding cheaper verizon phones.

rallykid - thanks for the encouragement! i'm gonna go back to the same verizon store and go talk to the manager and just tell him/her just what you said and see if he can do anything. Yeah i like verizon, actually my brother and mother use verzion and they've happy with verizon and they've been customers for like 3/4 years. in anycase thanks for your help i really hope i can get the phones for free or at least discounted. i'll keep you posted about what happens with the manager.
    thanks again.

thnx scandaLEX and everyone else for replying to my post.
i never thought Verizon sales staff was bad. but this incident was a fluke i guess.
Just made me feel like they didn't want my business or need my business.
And everyone else was like jumping on me for my business.
Cingular i had 3 reps talking to me and then they called over their regional manager that was visiting that night and he gave me a great deal.
T-mobile was crazy. the rep was like hold on, stay right here i gotta call the manager b/c he's at a different location today or something and in like 2 min. he comes back with an awesome deal.
And to get turned away from Verizon and i don't even get to talk to the manager.
just seemed kind of ironic... i thought Verizon had the best customer satisfaction in jersey anyways or something...
but we'll see what happens. i think i'm going to go tommorrow or sat. so i'll keep you posted.
    thanks again everyone!![IMG]

jpd, I recommend you go to Verizon's website and send a letter to their Executive Office. At the top of the page should be the link for "Contact Us" and towards the bottom a place for you to send e-mail to Verizon's Executive Office. Explain the situation in detail and, If you can, include the name of the person whom wouldn't allow you to see the Manager, and make sure to ask them towards the end if there is anyway you can get a deal on those phones. I am pretty sure there is, because they are more than glad to have your business, it's simply a matter of whom you talk to.

Sounds like T-mobile & Cingular were doing the good old used car salesman trick. Used car lots are infamous for let me get my manager to approve a better deal ... It's the oldest scam in the book to make a sale.

anonymous - i don't really see where it is a scam to ask your manager to allow the sales person to give the customer a better deal than list price. Shouldn't people who ask and negotiate for a good deal get one? especially people or businesses that do alot of business with a particular company or supplier?
beats me...but just seems like good business when you give incentives to people that are giving you more business. and it's usually those customers that do alot of business with you that are willing and want to refer your name to other potential customers.
i just don't get the scam part.
T-mobile is willing to give me two phones for free and the other two phones at half price. how is that a scam? if i didn't ask i would have just bought 4 phones for full price.
with cingular the manager discounted and with rebates 100-150 dollars off each phone. so it would come to a grand total of 200 dollars for 4 phones. and the phones could be the GSM V60i, Samsung, or the Nokia 8390. all were listed over 100 dollars.
so if i didn't ask i would have paid anywhere from 400-600 dollars for phones. so isn't asking better then just paying list/sticker price? so what if the sales person made some money or whoever. i still did save alot of money.
so scam... well maybe the sales person never really had to ask the manager and could have done the deal on his own. but did it just to make me think "oh i'm getting the best deal from the manager".
but bottom line is i'm getting a pretty good deal on phones. better than what i would have if i didn't ask at all. competition always is good in business. that's what i think.[IMG]

It's a simple psychological trick used on consumers. Sales people already know ahead of time exactly how much they can offer to the buyer. The sales person going to the manager to get approval makes the buyer feel like they are getting a "special" deal when all they are getting is a standard deal.

Most times when the sales person goes to the manager, the conversation has nothing whatsoever to do with the potential sale. They are making it look good for the buyer. I've eavesdropped on a lot of these conversations [IMG] and then watched the salesperson return to the prospective buyer. The next line is "My manager has approved my giving you this special offer."

    hmmm wow is that so?
then i should ask for more? or should i just ignore this obvious fake act to make them look good...
what do you do when you see that? or you just don't ask for special price at all?
like i use to work at circuit city and we would have to ask the sales manager if he could give us a mark down on a price or something of that nature.
but cell phone reps can do whatever they want? just will take away from their rips on commissions?
if their are any cell rep guys... explain to me how do you get paid and why don't you just be like well this is the lowest offer i can give you. makes them seem honest in a sales world of confusion and lies... wouldn't that actually work? being honest? i don't know well this isn't about ethics...
but bottom line. should i ask for more of a discount then? and should i go talk to the manager of verizon at all??? what should i expect?
let me hear your advice. i'd appreciate it.

Corey - this is the reply i got after i emailed the executive office of Verizon:

    Dear jpd,

Thank you for directing your comments to the Office of the President.

I have spoken with the manager at our Bridgewater store at 756 Route
202 South, their telephone number is 908 203-8484, Joel stated he can
offer two cigarette light adapters at no charge if you go on a two year
contract with the four lines. We cannot offer anything of the
telephones due to the rebates with them at this time. The cigarette
light adapters do cost $60.00 each and again we are offering two at no
charge for a two-year agreement on all four lines.

Joel is letting the people in his store about this offer as well.

We appreciate you taking the time to contact us.

    Sincerely,

    *****

True... very true you do get what you pay for usually. But when you're paying too much for something that's just dumb when you can get it for a cheaper price.
I mean why pay for phones when the equipment can appox. cost 1/2 year of service. and not like 40 dollar a month service. i'm thinking around 100-120 dollars a month. When you can go to every... and i mean every other competitor and they're willing to deal and make discounts because of the volume of business.
Seems to me... they just making a boat load of cash. they just are not going to get mine.
