Has anyone here been hit with the Sasser Worm? I had to deal with 3 incidents last night into this morning around 1AM. It's not that it's hard to isolate and clean out, more that it's annoying to do it to everyone else's computers. I'll post some info for those who have it as well as does who need more info. Got a Macroeconomics exam at 9:30, got to go. Pritesh
My father owns a computer sales and service store. He said he had 4 people bring machines to him yesterday that were infected. As long as you followed up on Microsoft's latest critical upgrades from April, you're fine.
A friend's uncle was hit with the virus on his desktop and laptop over the weekend. Silicon is right about not being too hard to root out and eradicate. Most people would probably decide to reinstall their OS but I consider that a last resort.
Norton has protected me from anything that has been spread over the college network. UD provided Mcaffee free in Sept, but that crap was junk. It doesn't do anything. Thanks Norton
My moms laptop did, she is shipping it to me now to fix it...I wanted it soon anyway to update some software she has. Can you post the fixes for it?
I tried to post the files to fix it, but it wouldnt let me. First thing to do is do a ctrl alt delete, go into processes and find the skynetave.exe, that is the virus running, end task on it. Microsoft Click on this link for Microsoft, to get the patch. Then go to this site for a online virus scan to remove the infected files. Trendmicro online virus scan
You can also remove Sasser manually by following these steps. 1. Disconnect your computer from the Internet. 2. Boot in Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key during startup. 3. Navigate to your Windows directory (c:\WINDOWS or c:\WINNT) on your hard drive. 4. Look for a file named AVSERVE.EXE. Delete it. 5. Click on the Start menu and select Run. 6. Type "regedit" (without quotes). 7. Navigate to the following Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run In the windows to the right, look for a value called avserve. Delete it. 8. Exit RegEdit. 9. Reboot. (from Tech TV) Here's the Link
heck yea, im all about symmantic stuff!... 'cept for Ghost, that program is a POS, if u have to resort to using it pritty much ur whole harddrive if f*cked up and the Ghost portion of ur disk is prolly f*cked....
Nope, we're behind a NAT router with a firewall, and we have ZoneAlarm Pro installed on each computer PLUS NAV 2004, no worries here :highclap:
Had to fix three incident today on the Rider University Campus, all fixed with no problems. I personally use Norton Systemworks 2004, so I'm ok. Any other questions, let me know about it. Pritesh
It hasn't hit our computer at home, since we have Norton Antivirus and Internet Security on it. :smilebig:
Ghost is nice when you do a fresh install and get things exactly how you want them... Just make an image and if something goes terribly wrong, or you just want to get rid of all the garbage, just restore to like new… For me this saves a TON of time.
HAH thats funny, I thought this thread was about some sort of new sexually transmitted disease. :whisper:
