I picked the toss-up choice. The two teams I wanted to see in the Super Bowl made it, so whoever wins, I'll be happy for them. I lean more towards the Pittsburgh Steelers because I'd like to see them get a 7th SB win. At the same time, I really like and respect the Green Bay Packers, and would have no problem at all if they won. As long as San Diego, NY, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Oakland, St. Loser, Baltimore, Arizona, and a few others are out of the running, I'm happy...
Steelers - as a die-hard purple people eater, I can't have the Pack earning another ring to our none!
Truthfully, I am not a fan of either team, especially since the Pats blew it. But I think it will be close with Green Bay winning. And besides, if I don't root for Green Bay, I might be in trouble with a certain someone, and I will not mention Charlyee's name.
AFC all the way (unless it is the Raiders or the Chiefs). Go Steelers! (my Wisconsin native mother would cry if she saw this).
I agree. The reason I like the Packers is because of the way this team is set up. The fact that Green Bay still has a team, due to the unique ownership structure, in this day and age of "big markets rule", is testament to a stability that doesn't seem, IMO, to exist anymore. The fact the entire state of Wisconsin is behind this team fervently is great. Milwaukee doesn't have to support a Green Bay team just because it's the only team NFL team in the state. Just look at how they try to market the Chargers here in L.A., where there are more "Oakland" Raider fans than anything else (though I've read no team has a dominant hold on this market). The Packers are an example of what works in professional sports. The patience and unending support of their fans makes the gap between championships allowable. The Packers are a model franchise, beyond wins and losses. Of course I don't expect the fans of the Packers' division mates to feel the same as I do. I can't say the same level of support exist here in Los Angeles. This market is too fractured and busy to care. Which is why we haven't had pro football in 16 years (and counting). It was easy for me to root for the Packers this year.
I heard the prize is a refurbed iPhone, to keep your Sultry Sony warm, on those long cold Wisconsin winters. Congrats Charlyee on your Packer Win.
Joe, don't be fresh! That was a fantastic game although I was getting knots in my stomach around the 4 min mark. Mike, yes we do fervently support the Packers wherever in WI we may be. Also a Packer fan is for life even if they are no longer in WI, our very own Gamer is one example. That was a great moment. Rodgers is a great quarterback and a great team leader. It was a fantastic game. I too was getting a little anxious towards the end of the 4th quarter. I voted for Green Bay too. I have, and always will be, a diehard Packer fan, even though I am originally from Illinois. My grandfather (my dad's dad) was born outside Green Bay. He would stop by and talk to Curly Lambeau on the way to or from school when he was growing up. He was even given a Packer blanket by Curly Lambeau himself. We still have it and will never let it go. So naturally my dad, mom, sister, and I, plus my uncle, aunt, and cousin are all diehard Packer fans. In 1996, all seven of us visited Green Bay. We went to the field where they were doing their summer training camp. Favre was not there but we saw a lot of the players arrive at the field. Reggie White walked close by and even bumped into my mom by accident (who almost was knocked down by him). That was a great year since they had a great season that year and went on to beat the Patriots 35 to 21 in Super Bowl XXXI. When I get a break from working this week, I will be sure to order the Super Bowl XLV Packer hat. I still have my Super Bowl XXXI hat. On a side note, in case anyone is interested in the history of the Green Bay Packers, here is a link to it: http://www.packers.com/history/birth-of-a-team-and-a-legend.html
Well said, Mike. As for the ownership, it says something when residents of Green Bay plus the players, staff, etc, are all shareholders of Green Bay. Also, even if we are losing or winning, we will stay until the end. I think it is very poor when other NFL teams are losing, the fans will get up and walk away from the game. According to the NFL Network, there were over 35,000 fans that stood six to eight deep along the motorcade of the players today in Green Bay. Also, all 56,000 tickets were sold for the Return to Titletown celebration this afternoon at Lambeau Field.
