I am thinking of swithing to sprint from t-mobile due to t-mobile's lack of analog use in rural areas, and inability to get me a good deal on a new phone. Sprint seems to have some great deals right now $$ wise, but I am not sure that I will be happy with the service and phone. Here is what I have found.

N240 - would be free but, I have read only bad reviews about this phone -( bad reception, phone heating up).

LGN4Ne1 - cost around $29. have seen mixed reviews.

a460 - cost around $50, but have heard phone screen breaks, and it gets no reception.

4900 - Great reviews, but its a giant size

Does anyone have any suggestions for me. What I really want is a small lightweight phone that will get good reception in my metro area (Phoenix) and good roaming reception. My main concerns with sprint is that I might not get good, or any roaming reception, and the phone may be bad.

I would like to keep the price down also, hopefully under $50 after specials. Would I be better off with AT&T or Verizon (Equal plans seem to cost more). Thanks for the help.

Dont get the n240 - very bad battery life (lowest that sprint has to offer) and dropped calls in fringe areas. Dont get a460, bad reception and bad everything else. I have not come across many people who like this phone....but there are some. It is an awesome looking phone i must admit.

Sanyo 4900 great phone, but ugly and big. But HIGHLY recommended

First question. Do you intend to use vision? If not, the sanyo 5150 just dropped from 300 - 200. And if you are a new customer. You could probably get it for half price or so. Last I know they were giving 100 instant store rebates (depends on credit class). But that was a month ago, not sure if they still are. Sanyo 6200/6400 worlds thinnest phone is very stylish and reliable. I have been hearing some good things about the LG 5350, but the company LG has a very bad reputation for multiple disasters on its previous models.

The Audiovox phones are good for reception, but kinda plain looking. Hitachi's are good too i heard.

Sprint has a lot of holiday deals at the moment and an awesome $30 plan. Take advantage of their promotions! goodluck!

I'm a current Sprint customer who is switching to the $30 plan ($40 after three months) with Vision. While I'm also leery of LG's reputation, I've tentatively decided to go with LG 5350. I've liked what I've read so far, and I also liked how the phone looked and felt in the store.

From what you have posted, the Sanyo 4900 seems to be your better of all the evils, but if you want to keep the price cheap, then the 4900 or even the Hitachi P300 may be phones you would not want to consider.
That's sad considering how good the phones are and can pick up a signal from under a rock.
As far as the size of the 4900, you would be amazed at how fast you would get used to it; it is not as heavy as people make it out to be.

Hey, I live in Tempe, which is basically Phoenix and I recently switched from Verizon to Sprint. I bought the Sanyo 4900 with the reccomendation of a friend. I got it for FREE from Amazon.com. Yes, FREE! It was 150 - 150 in mail in rebates. The reception has been amazing and I love the phone. I say go with this....especially if you canf ind it for free!

I switched from Verizon to Sprint 3 weeks ago. The primary reason is pricing at the $85 (2000 minutes). I got two 4900 phones and share the 2000 minutes with my wife.

Second reason why I went with Sprint was because Sprint has better phones. I read all of the reviews and talk to several Sprint salespeople, and they all recommended the 4900.

I totally satisfied with Sanyo 4900. The coverage in the San Gabriel Valley is very good. The only negative about Sprint is their lack of customer service (1/2 hour hold to reach live CS). Also, their Vision web service is slow and hard to connect sometimes (time out errors).

Thanks for the replies. I now have it down to the S 4900 and S 6200. I tested both out in the store today and reception was great with both.

I really love the size of the 6200, but I like the features of the 4900. Hard choice.

Bigshloss- have you been in an area where analog service has come into play yet with sprint -possibly Northern AZ, or not in the PHX metro area? If so how was the analog signal, did you get one?
Amazon still has 4900 for free, which is great. In the store they offered a $20 credit for switching over a residential long distance, and a refer a friend deal- $10 credit. Any idea if you can get these credits from sprint afterwards, if you buy on amazon?

The 6200 is a great phone. Just keep in mind it is not a vision enabled handset. If vision is important to you, then get the 6400 which is basically the 6200 with vision. Also if you talk for very long periods of time, i would advise the 4900 because the 6200 is a very thin phone. Nice style, but will heat up a bit quicker than most phones (15 minutes or so). All phones get warm if you talk on them long enough. This one is just a bit quicker.

You picked good phones. Im sure you will be happy.

I would agree with the others that for what you want, the 4900 may be your best choice. I've never read of anyone who has one who it is unhappy with it. I like my Hitachi, but it needs a price cut, and is only single band, so it wouldn't work for you. If you look at the Sanyo 5300 you might change your mind and find you are willing to part with a few bucks after all. Reception will still be excellent, but you'll get a flip phone, a much better screen, and a built in camera.

I would say go ahead and buy 4900 and leave the 6200. Even if you forget about other benefits, just the fact that 4900 is a newer phone than 6200 and they always keep improving in their newer models.

I had the Sanyo 4900 and now have the 5300 and vision with the 5300 seems to be a bit faster. I rarely get any timeouts anymore. I did quite frequently with the 4900. But overall the 4900 is a great phone especially if you can get it for free. I paid $179 for it. Sanyo does make the best phones in my opinion and several others in the forums. [IMG]

Well, Thanks for all the advice. The debate is over. I got the 6200. I got a great deal $79 after credit for switching res. line over, w/ a $10 credit on the way for refer-a -friend, and waived activation charge.

I was happy with the phone as soon as I left the store and dropped it in my shirt pocket, could hardly tell it was there. Reception has been pretty good too. thanks again.

Congratulations! hope the 6200 works well for you. Just make sure you play around with it as much as you can for the return period. Just in case you change your mind. I had that phone before. Loved it in everyway, especially the thinness which was comfortable in my pocket. As mentioned earlier, my only complaint was the heat issue, which a lot of people dont notice or mind. I guess im just picky.

    Good decisions!
