How do I find out which phone will give me the best reception\coverage in a low coverage area?

I have a Razor V-3 POS (I have had it for about 18 months). The reception has always been lousy, but now my calls are constantly dropped, and I don't receive calls. I will have 3 bars, and the phone doesn't receive calls, but I will get a voice mail notification. And sometimes I have 2 or 3 bars and the calls are constantly failing. (the bars go away by the time I finish dialing).

I didn't want to buy another phone, but I think I have no choice. I have 6 months left on my contract.

Which phone models are known to have the best reception? I am in Northern California.

Or, is there something I can do to get better reception on this phone?

    Thank you

No answers? Does this mean that the make or model of the phone has nothing to do with the reception?

You may just want to get a Nokia 3595 - it's simple. But has great RF! You can pick one up from ebay for cheap.
