When you get a new phone which is your preferred type? Bar, clamshell/folder/flip or "slider?" I've always preferred bar type.
I prefer flip phones. I got hooked on smartphones for my primary device but on Verizon, smartphones and clamshells don't mix. They only have one smartphone clamshell and I don't want an almost 2 year old Windows mobile Pantech that I don't know anything about. So I am stuck on bar phones for the time being.
I prefer flip phones just because I think the voice quality on them is better the microphone is right by your mouth.
Same here. Every time I talk to someone that has a bar phone or a slider it's so annoying with the background noise.
Do you know that from what people have told you or are you just assuming that you get better voice quality with a flip phone? Bluetooth headsets do not have the mic right by your mouth either yet the voice quality is OK even though the actual boom is several inches from your mouth. Or is it just that you assume because you are slightly farther away with a bar type phone that the received audio is not as good?
My friends complain about my use of BT a lot more than use of bar phones and most of my talking happens over BT
Well for me and the many phones I have had I always ask a couple people how I sound and they give me a thumbs up or down. Over the several phones I have had I have just found that flip phones for me allow people to hear me easier. I think the reason being is that the microphone is turned in towards your face and right by your mouth so your voice I think cancels other things out. BT most of the time have very good noise cancellation. This is based on myself and noone else others can differ.
Me too Mike. I have been using, however, bar phones (Treo 700wx, Sprint Mogul, Sprint Treo 755p, and soon to be iPhone [when we switch in July]) since mid to late 2005.
And I believe in both of our cases, the phones we wanted just happened to be bar phones. I'm not tied to any particular phone type, even though I prefer clammies, but it's more about the functionality, brand, and options on the phone that determine what I'm going to buy.
I like flip phones the best, that is why I have a Katana II for my dumb phone I can beat up. I prefer the functionallitly of PDA/smartphones which mostly are bar.
Definitely. Plus I don't mind that most if not all smartphones/PDA's are bar devices since like you said there are more functions and options on them.
I have to admit, I can't imagine a Treo or HTC clamshell. At least I've never seen one of their phones in a clamshell variety.
I prefer clamshell phones as well, but as the HTC Tilt is a slider, so that's what I have. I bought the Tilt for its features, and the slider form factor was my only choice to get them. There really isn't a PDA clamshell out there. It would be nice though. I think the Tilt is probably as close to a clamshell as a full function PDA can get.
That would be strange. I don't think that I could get use to that. Maybe over time, but I have adapted to the bar smartphone variety, so for now, I am happy and will be staying with smartphones in the future. I have to have all of the bells and whistles on my devices.
thats the trouble with most polls. you have to be 1 or the other. i like some bar phones, like my centro, and i like some flips, like the v3xx. so i vote both of these. but of course i cait because its not set up that way.
Yeah I meant the rugged type of the Motorola phones that Nextel carries for their iDEN network. I was just trying not to use so many words.
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D062; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320) yeah prolly should have. I just did not want to pick either but both. lol.
