Hello, Am in my seventies now, and frankly not to up to date with the new technology. Not sure if this is the best sub-forum for this. If not, please advise me as to where to post it. Wish to buy a new Cordless Phone for the house, but would hate to go to the trouble of getting one from Amazon, and finding out that it isn't really what we want, or "very good". Want one of the new cordless types with a few remote handsets. Guess we would go for the DECT 6; this apparently being the latest and greatest. Good choice ? Anyway, what we want, I think is: Answering machine built in. Should have a visual indicator in the Base Unit that it has stored some new incoming calls. Speakerphone in the Base (very important that it be loud and clear for my wife) Adj. volume. Speakerphone also in all handsets; both the one in the Base and the remotes Adj. volume. And the obvious like good audio clarity, proven reliability, etc. Probably other things as well, but not sharp enough to even know what else to ask. What else is important ? I guess the big names in this are Panasonic, Uniden, and V-Tech. Saw a Uniden for around $100 with, i think, 3 handswets. It said Base Speaker Phone on box, but the speaker grill for it on the Base seemed to be directly under the Handset; how could this give good audio ? Must one remove the handset to hear from the Speakerphone in the Base ? Any suggestions as to Brand and Model would be most appreciated. Why ? Thank you very much, Bob
I have a Panasonic 3 handset system that I use at work. Its a loud environment, and I have no problems hearing on the cordless phones. The handsets also have speakerphone on them. The calls are nice and clear, I have no problems using them anywhere in my 7,500 square foot facility, and they even work when I visit the offices next door as well. My only gripe with them is that the buttons are small, and my hands are large, but maybe they have another model with larger buttons. The speed dial is easy to use, so I don't have to direct dial numbers much. My employees are hard on the phones, dropping them on concrete and tile floors and they have yet to break one. My Grandfather had the Uniden model. It had very good sound quality as well, but again it had small buttons. Grandpa's Uniden did not have a speakerphone on the handsets, only on the base station. I've been very pleased with the Panasonic model, and would highly recommend it. -Jay
From OP: Just A Bit More Clarification, Please. Re: Which Cordless Phone, Please ? Hi, Thanks for taking the time to my Query. Appreciate it. Always good to here positive feedback from an actual user. Question: I just want to make sure, please: You are saying that there is a Speakerphone on the Base ? And, that it is loud and clear, evewn though (apparently) covered up by the handset ? (no need to remove the handset to hear the Base speakerphone. Right ?) Thanks again, Bob
At our home, we been using the Uniden brand for awhile now. They are great in design with quality features, but the battery was so so in our opinion. We basically have to change the battery or swap out new headset yearly as for the battery barely holds. Other than the battery issue, we love the speaker phone on each headset as well as the base. The sound is loud and clear when calling nationally, but the other side/party can barely hear us when we call internationally on the speaker phone (with the speaker phone off, is fine). Even with the speaker phone off, can hold the phone one feet away from our ear and still hear the other part on loudest setting. There are some cool features on our Uniden like room monitor, 2-way radio with the headsets, intercom, listen to voicemail with the headset or base, and more. We have been on the Uniden for the last 5 years or so, so we couldn't comment on the other brands. This is the phone we use in the garage and kitchen where people and kids tend to be rough on the phone. When buy cordless phones, just make sure you get DECT 6.0 (1.9G Hz) or 5.8 GHz set as for they don't interfer with other wireless signal in your house (like microwave and wireless-B and G). Also, if you clutter-free, get those expandable sets as well
Re: From OP: Just A Bit More Clarification, Please. Re: Which Cordless Phone, Pleas Honestly, I have never used the speakerphone in the base. The speakerphone in the handsets is excellent though. -Jay
