I'm moving to Taos, NM. I have Sprint, but there is no coverage after you leave Santa Fe. Does anyone live in the immediate Taos area? If so, what carrier do you like? Thanks!!!

Thanks for your reply, Andy. Alltell? I have never heard of them before now. I checked their site, and the prices are great, but the phones look a little outdated?

The phones arent all that out of date... Some phones (like Q, V3M) sold on VZ often are exclusive to them for a set time (i.e. a few months). While Alltel isnt known for the latest gadgets, Alltel owns the largest network in terms of square miles. Also, Alltel's plans are often lower than VZW. Or you get more for the same prices.

You have to decide what are your priorities are for service.

Just a bit of info from how we view new phones and features. alltel usually does not like to be one of the first for something new. Why???? We like to let other people have the phone or new feature first, spend all the money and time getting the bugs out of it, then take it to the market place. Two reasons:
Money involved... Alltel does not have to spend a lot of money trying to adjust things to get the problems worked out.

Customer satisfaction... Customers are less frustrated by not having the product offered to them than having it and it not working. (Makes since, if i am paying for something i want it to work.)

Thanks everyone, for your help. I had to make a quick decision and I went with Verizon since I wasn't familiar with Allel, but I will check out Alltel and consider them when my contract is up. Thanks again.

mcarra may already gone, but it is unfortunate that he didn't give Alltel serious consideration, at least talk to them. There are many users who WISH they could get service from Alltel, and are envious of someone who is moving into an Alltel market.

Fortunately, Verizon is almost as good a choice in Taos as Alltel. And, in parts of the area, Verizon will roam on Alltel. I do understand when someone has a greater comfort level with a 'known' carrier. Sprint phones roam on both Verizon and Alltel there.

There could be a critical difference between the two carriers, though. If the O.P. should choose to live in, say, Rio Hondo, there is no Verizon signal in the center of that town, even though it's only a couple miles north of Taos. Sadly, Alltel isn't much better there, but it might be good enough.
