I googled and found the stats from last year (2007) for the first iphone. On the day of the iPhone launch, 272,000 iPhones were sold in the US in the first 30 hours. The 164 Apple stores sold 200,000, but did not run out. Therefore each store, on average, had more than 1,219 iPhones in stock, since they had leftoversl The 1800 AT&T stores sold 72,000 and ran out. Therefore each store, on average, had 40 iPhones in stock. Probably figure the same for 2008. If you arrive at an att store and there are 40 plus people in line...good chance you should head for an Apple store. Of course the bigger, more city ATT stores may have had more then average in stock.
I'm going to go sit in line the day before to try and be the first one in that store to get an iPhone 3G. There are no Apple stores here
Yeah, the nearest Apple Store to me is almost 2 hours away. But, I have a local AT&T corporate store right in my town. If I can, I'm going to try to get in line a few hours before the store opens. My town is pretty small (around 4000 people) so I'm hoping there's not going to be a big line. I'm also hoping most people don't even know about the iPhone 3G and it being here, lol.
So if the Apple Stores didn't sell out last year, how long before I can walk in and get one easily or with minimal wait?
I would think that it would be different this year, seeing as there is going to be an 8 GB version, and TWO 16 GB versions. Last year, there was only the one version at launch correct? This year, there will be three different versions if you include the fact that the 16 GB one comes in Black and White.
Rumors are that the white may not be available at launch. I'm going to just wait and check Friday afternoon. I may even call Friday night to see if they'll have any in the morning and then go out early on a Sat morning. On BGR or Giz, they said if an AT&T store runs out, you'll be able to order and pay for one and have them call you when it arrives. Last year they said they 2nd Air'd them and people got them on Wed.
I will be at the Apple store in South Miami, bright and early Friday morning, and I can almost guarantee that Apple, as well as AT&T both learned allot from last years fiasco. VERY EXCITED.......I love new toys, right Charlyee????? :browani: :loony:
What!? No white version at launch!? That's the one I was hoping to get!! Where have these rumors come from? I really don't wanna wait in line for some time only to find out that they don't have the phone that I want.
Well I'm really hoping that all that is is just a rumor. Basically because I've never heard of that yet. Or maybe just because I don't wanna believe it, lol. I really don't wanna wait in line only to find out they don't carry it. One of the biggest reasons I want the white one is because the other person who is going to be on my familyplan is going to get the black one.
The wording of what I've seen says that won't be possible for a while--have you heard anything that says you'll be able to order it for home delivery? It would be so much nicer to do it all online and have it shipped. I don't need it the first day... 2nd day air would work for me
BGR confirms the White will be available. White iPhones available at most likely every AT&T and Apple store Friday : Boy Genius Report
Great news!! Now, I just hope that EVERY AT&T store will have white. I live in the boonies so I'm hoping my store will have it.
My att guy said to call him the night before and they would be able to tell me how many they received.
My local AT&T person said that as well. I guess when I call I'll ask about whether they have the white in stock.
I'm going to wait in line tonight starting at 8:30 PM. I want to be the first one to get it and I have class tomorrow morning at 9:20 AM, so I need to make sure I get out of there quick! Out of curiosity, has anyone used at&t's emergency roadside service?
Even that would be find, but when i talked to someone at the store they said, " We well most likey only get 40 iphone's, after all of the phones are sold you can buy it and have to shipped to your front door the next day." I well see what happens.
