Quick question: Where on the phone is the internal antenna for the Motorola V3 Razr? I don't want to see posts that say "I don't know" or things like that. If someone can just tell me where it is on the phone, that would be great!

    My google hit:

"The slightly large width seems to sit perfectly in your palm and with the V3's internal antenna at the bottom of the handset , the phone is not top heavy like some clamshell mobiles."

    From http://www.zdnet.com.au/reviews/coolgear/mobiles/0,39023387,39174070,00.htm

So I guess it is the ballast or bulge at the bottom of the phone. Makes sense. Nokia's rectangular antenna is normally at the top of the phone. This is the way they look, sort of a rectangular mass

Beautiful! Thanks for that. I guess I didn't use the same verbage on the search that you did to get that result.

    Thanks for posting it!

Yep, the antenna is located in the bulky part at the bottom of the phone (below the keypad). According to Motorola management, it was designed this way because the engineers noticed most people hold a clamshell with their hand covering the top hinge area of the phone, which obivously could interfere with the signal. My guess is it was just more conducive to the design they wanted for the end-product, and it was a convenient result. ;)

I have V3 envy, those are nice. I will most likely end up with one at some point.

I always thought one's hand covering the antenna didn't make a difference with RF strength.

Just for kicks I tried making a call while covering the antenna with my hand and it worked perfectly.

If you go to an area that has poor service, you definitely notice the difference. I have to be very careful the way I hold my phone here at the office. I get readings in the high -90's inside, so if my fingers are close to the antenna at all, I start to get choppy reception...
