I'm curious if anyone knows where deleted text messages are stored. I found some software that retrieved deleted texts from the SIM card, but I'd like to know if they are stored anywhere else. I have a SLVR L7.

Well, some "IT" guys where my husband works told him they could retrieve deleted text messages from my phone from before we were married, they just needed to have my phone for a day. I just want to make sure it's not possible...I'll get a new SIM card or phone if I have to!

There is some technogy available for retrieving deleted messages . These are expensive, do not always work & not available to general public. It is probably not as easy as your husband's IT friend is making it sound but I am not in IT so someone like Bobolito will have better input on that.

For all practical purposes you probably have nothing to worry about and from what I have read, changing your SIM and/or hard resetting your phone will permanently erase all data.

I appreciate the info. Would my provider be able to tell me how to do a hard reset, or should I go to the Motorola website for that information? I assume there is a button somewhere? That's how I reset my Palm. Thanks again for your time.

Either Motorola or at&t will have that information. Actually many Moto users on this board also know, why don't you post it as a separate question on the Motorola Forum. It is buried in one of the menu items not as easy as a Palm.

For your peace of mind, maybe you want to have your SIM card replaced also.

    Good luck :)

what many probably don't realize is that there is a cache persay that is left behind.......its not actual saved files but ghost images of the files...........so therefore unless you got the phone and SIM completely reflashed a phone can store quite a few deleted messages.............same with a regular hard drive..........they tell you never to sell hard drives used because there may be ghost data on the drive that can be recovered with only a little work

So I'll ask the question nobody has asked yet: what was on those SMS-es? :browani:

If your phone is reformatted or re-flashed or whatever and you get a new SIM card, that should be enough. If you had high level government secrets in those SMS-es then maybe break out the sledge-hammer and lighter fluid, but otherwise I think you're OK. ;)

I thought there might be a ghost image but wasn't sure if my phone was advanced enough to have a hard drive. I performed a Master Reset and Master Clear. Is this the same as reflashing?

no.....i dont think so......reflashing is something that involves a little hacking or has to be done by the manufacturer or carrier.......doing it on your own can be dangerous and could involve you turning your phone into a paperweight

To me I wouldn't worry about it, and besides what does it matter what your "Past" sms history was, you married him & he needs to not worry about that & accept you for who you are now & stop being petty about things that don't matter.
Life is too short to be doing things like this & hopefully he was just joking with you & has no real intention of trying to get the IT guy to do it, and if he does, you have bigger problems to worry about then old sms.

Sorry if this came across as rough or extreme, not my intention

I don't know. But if the messages are that important dont do much further with your phone, take the phone to Computer IT specialist likely found in some small coomputer repair shops, they may be able to recover your lost text messages and print them out for you. Anything that is deleted can be recovered.

If you save cell phone data to SIM cards, there's some good news; SIM cards all store data in a similar way, and text messages loaded onto a SIM card are very recoverable. There are multiple programs and interfaces out there to access and read the data on SIM cards, and most cell phone stores have them. Recovering deleted text messages is a bit more difficult, and requires a data recovery company, but it's much less costly from a SIM card.

You need to know the deletion won't wipe the real data that have saved on your Android phone memory card, they are still there. But you should not use your phone to send or receive messages now because at present there's no known way to extract deleted messages that have been overwritten. There are plenty of solutions to recover deleted messages from Android phones, but one of the best is use the third part tool.

If you've accidentally deleted some or all of your text messages by mistake, fret not! You can recover deleted text messages Android with a big chance of success, but there's one ingredient that is most important: time! If you've deleted your SMS inbox you have to act quick, because while the messages are recoverable until the portion of memory on which they are saved is rewritten, the longer you wait the higher the likelihood of getting new text messages, app updates or who-knows-what saved to the same location, obliterating them forever. And Myjad Android SMS Recovery is a good choice to recover deleted text messages Android.

If you deleted your messages from phone, you cannot recover them again, it was gone forever!

No modern telephone stores messages on a SIM card. Messages are stored in the internal memory of the handset.

For iPhone lost contacts, You can extract your contacts from the iTunes backup when you lost your iPhone. iTunes can automatically back up your iPhone contacts and update it every time when you sync it. So you really have a big chance to recover contacts from iTunes backup.
