Hello fellow Verizon users. I may be one of you now. I am evaluating a Droid 2 to see if a permanent switch is worth it. Yeah, that just happened.
Welcome to Verizon Wireless, Yankees368. I can't believe you decided to try it out. Hopefully the service will work out for you. Be sure to keep us posted on the outcome.

Good gravy, my heart just skipped a beat! What in the name of the apocalypse is going on here??? Welcome to planet RED...
What is happening is that I got sick of waiting for Sprint to fix their network here, and I have to get my service elsewhere. Right now, I'm just seeing if verizon is any better around here and if the switch is worth it. However, if I do stick with Verizon, I will probably end up returning my Droid 2 to Bestbuy and re-buy it on amazon for far, far less than what it was there. Also have to find out about any potential corporate or student discounts.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2; en-us; DROIDX Build/VZW) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1 480X854 motorola DROIDX) That is a good deal.
Here is a clip of the Droid 2 vs. Evo in a speed test. The evo actually got better speeds than usual (that says a lot)
Wow! No wonder you are trying out the D2 on Verizon Wireless. I hate to say it, but the Sprint speeds in MI are horrible.
It's not Michigan as a whole, but more specifically this one particular site that covers both my apartment and school and work (all within a half mile). If I go to the north west or east to another site, speeds go back to over 1000kbps usually. However, in the downtown area, Sprint tried to get away with one site where all other carriers have at least 2 (even metroPCS). The site is horribly overloaded, and I'm sick of waiting for them to fix it.
From what I have seen and experienced, I have gotten 20% off the data fee because of the discount on the voice portion of the plan. The discounts aren't necessarily the same, percentage wise. This is what's in my account notes: In my case, I get 18% off the Nationwide 700 minute plan, which amounts to $10.80 and I alse get 20% off the data plan, amounting to $6... These discounts doesn't apply to lines 2-5, or the other add-ons. I hope this clears up the confusion some...
Hmm, on my account, i just see "Your monthly access discount is 15%." I don't see anything about a data fee discount. guess my discount isnt as good as yours!
I just did a pretty decent test now between my sprint Evo, my Verizon Droid 2, and a friends AT&T iphone 3GS: verizon- 1428/394 149ms att- 1300/170 544ms spcs- 118/539 284ms I will say this, AT&T's speeds are constantly fast, whereas Verizon seems to waver a bit. Sprint, well...is still Sprint.
Ah... just to make sure, did you click on "Plan Details"? If there is no mention of an additional discount there, then, OK, I have a decenrt deal The "Your Discount is 18%" always appears in a blue box immediately after logging in. The data discount is in the Plan Details...
Under my plan, I see: "Promotion details 15% ACCESS DISCOUNT 19% ACCESS DISCOUNT 15% - FEATURE DISCOUNT " I assume the 15% will go away, as I bumped up to 19%. I don't see data anywhere. Weird.
Ah... maybe I am using the wrong words From what I have experienced, the "Feature" refers to the data fee; "Access" refers to the access fee for the voice (or Voice and text combined, depending on the plan chosen) From what you have mentioned bere, you'll likely get 19% off the voice and 15% off the data fee. If I am interpreting this wrong, the worst you'd get is only 19% off the voice and some pennies saved is better than none at all
Since I last posted, both the 15% access and feature discounts have been removed, leaving only the 19% access discount. What can ya do.
I was able to pull 4Mbps out of an AT&T Lightning Connect Card where I am at. Shocked the heck out of me. Did you ever get a ticket in with Sprint and/or an answer? I highly doubt it, I never got anything when they switched a Base Station out by me and I couldn't use Sprint in my house anymore.
I haven't seen anything near 4mbps out of verizon. Highest I have gotten is more like 2500kbps. I contacted Sprints executive customer care way back in June or July, and their answer at first was maintenance at the switch gone wrong, to the sites being way over capacity and that the time frame was "possibly December." A useless answer, as it provided me with no concrete solution, or what the probable fix was.
I tell you when I had Sprint I spoke to them so many times and they always said in a couple of months. The problem for me around my old home in Garden City the best I got was 2 bars out doors and the unit always switched to analog. Well moved out of GC at end of "08 and the issues there were never fixed. I left Sprint in 2004 after a few years and the main reason was all the main areas for were always switching to analog which was no good as they were going to digital phones only. If one went to Mineola or heampstead things got better but it seems that once one goes to a better neighborhood, one had to expect a worse than average service. I tel you that here in VA I am very satisfied with my service and my luck is that only at&t gives full service while T Mo, VZW are low bars and well Sprint has no service around my house. Hope things work out much better for you with VZW.
Places like Garden City, and other Long Island locations, are very difficult to cover. They are densely residential, so it is a fight to get a site up anywhere. I know for a fact that a site was added in downtown Garden City in 2006, at the corner of Stewart and Franklin, to an existing Nextel Site. Analog roaming is such an old sprint thing, lol. People in Garden City, and areas like it, are better served by an 850 carrier. And thank you, Verizon is already working out better for me.
You are right when At&t switched to 850 in the area thing went to best service and it did help them in putting an antena by L&T I know of the site you are talking about as it also serves T Mobile but the placement is so low that the net effect is not that good Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7
Yep, here is the Site that has Nextel and Sprint on it: http://gallery.wirelessadvisor.com/showimage.php?i=2246&catid=searchresults&searchid=5457 It might also have T-Mobile, but I think their sire might be across the street, here: http://gallery.wirelessadvisor.com/showimage.php?i=4361&catid=searchresults&searchid=5457 However, this site servers a large portion of garden city. Contains Verizon, Sprint, and MetroPCS: http://gallery.wirelessadvisor.com/showimage.php?i=5758&catid=searchresults&searchid=5457
I also remember seeing some on te old borders building on Franklin just before Heampstead. I am not sure if those are still there and who they belonged to Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7
