well sprint gave us street level maps, but hasn't done much to them since they put them out. they put one update on new towers but thats about it..anyone have any idea when they will update the coverage with the new towers?
Yeah they really do need an update on them. The last one came on 11/9/06 by my records. Since then they've added more cell sites in those two months than at any other 2 month point in the past 7 years in many markets. They need to start promoting the new coverage and new towers added.
How many years has the cell site page gone un-updated for? all that page is good now for is to see what cities were affiliate owned and which are corporate
Ha ha you mean the tower location maps? March 2005 is the last time they were updated. There's no doubt that they are dead.
T-Mobile does a great job keeping their coverage maps updated. They have been very accurate to show a "T" in areas they activate cell sites in. If you have this feature on your coverage maps, I would assume that it would be beneficial to the company to keep it updated...but, Sprint and their coverage maps...
I'm keeping track of how long it takes t-mobile to list http://gallery.wirelessadvisor.com/showimage.php?i=3131&catid=searchresults&searchid=469 on their maps. Another new t-mobile site took about 4 months for them to list.
yeah when i got my phone the map said that EV-DO was a mile to 2 miles away from my house and i got it at least 3 miles outside of the EV-DO footprint
Interesting. In my area, at least, T-Mobile is always seems to update their maps within day of activating a site, if not even the same day!!!
I have a Quad Band GSM phone with European SIM Cards that roam here on both Cingular and T-Mobile so it's perfect for me to tower test.
i just checked out the coverage maps.............they have done some serious upgrades............remember how i was telling you all that there shouldnt be EV-DO where i was getting it in like 5 different places...........yeah well almost all of the towers in my area are EV-DO..............like within a 50 mile radius any tower Sprint has is probably EV-DO..........very few 1xRTT towers left
They still have not updated the green section on the coverage maps though, they only showed some more new cell sites.
The coverage map tool seems to be more behind than it should be. For example I saw a map of EV-DO coverage in northern Utah and sprint showed they covered Morgan with Rev. A. They have never had service period in Morgan or up I-84/Weber Canyon, and still don't list any coverage on their coverage map tool, although they are clearly adding to some nextel sites in that area now. It will be a nice update for Sprint as this area has been covered by all other carriers for years.
......and like i said most of my areas are all orange......not much more green left........now answer me this......if they are doing upgrades of 1X towers to EV are these upgrades to EV Rev A?
But the update was not quite up to date with all of the towers. Here's an example from the Los Angeles area map where they haven't updated the green area: But many areas have been updated which is nice.
Here's another odd example of the green areas not being updated: And theses were towers that were turned up way back in early December!
It doesnt seem like it was a very good update. It only updated the green on a few towers that were put up around my area.
Yes, I figured. My point was it doesn't show at all on the coverage maps yet! Larry, how much do you know about Sprint's expansion here? And how do you? I'd love to know more. How long have they had CDMA in Morgan and how extensive is the coverage? Does it extend all the way up I-84 etc? All other carriers have covered these areas for years. And is this probably the result of adding CDMA to Nextel sites?
Sprint appears to have updated their coverage maps today. Unfortunately they also appear to have decreased the coverage in the northern area of Sandy Utah. A part of the map there that used to have a "good" designation now has a "fair" designation. Way to go, Sprint. We complain about the coverage in this area so they response by cutting back. No wonder Nextel is going down so fast. Sprint itself may be going too. Must be a way to reduce costs.
It is more likely a reevaluation of coverage at that specific area, not an actual degredation of coverage. They could just be trying to report more accurately. Have you noticed any signal loss in the northern Sandy area? By the way, Welcome to Wireless Advisor. It's nice to have more users from the Salt Lake area!
I think they are actually probably understating their coverage more than they already do. In my area, many places where the map says their is no coverage actually get 2 bars, which is enough to make a completely stable phonecall outside.
Sprint never decreases coverage. What they've done is a complete overhaul on the maps to more accurately depict the levels of coverage. After the initial street level maps were released Sprint got a lot of feedback on them and decided to update the RF propogation levels to be more accurate. It's obvious that the original maps were too optimistic in some areas and not optimistic enough in other areas. I've also seen the reverse where coverage that previsouly only shown as fair or good is now upgraded to best.
