Hi ya'll. I'm new to the forum, even though I've been reading it for quite a while now. Anyhow, I want to get the new Nokia 6230 from Cingular, but as of yet I've not been able to find out when the phone is going to be released. Do any of you gurus know? Thanks,Brian.

according to nokiausa's site, it is already offered:

    nokia cingular 6230

something very odd, though: if you click on the "nokia 6230" ling on top of that page i gave you, a new window will pop up. in it it says 2 things:

    no wireless browser capability
    and
    tri-mode.

how can this phone, have no wap browser? also, how can a GSM phone be tri-mode? it cant be 3-mode, since it only uses digital signals!!

Hi I just got the US version of the 6230. It certainly does have wireless browser capability, I "watched" the election results on it yesterday from work. :).

Also I am pretty sure they mean tri-band and not tri-mode. The US version has 850/1800/1900 Mhz. and the Eurasian version 900/1800/1900 Mhz, beats me why didn't Nokia just make a quad band.

It is a great little phone, I have not played with it enough but I like everythinhg I see so far.

    Hope this helps.

    thanks for the information...

2 questions for you, if you dont mind:

    1) how is the screen resolution? i read it is 64k colors, which is good, but i have seen some phones with that type of resolution that look really cheap.

    2) have you tried the bluetooth headset? how is it?

    Hi Gabriel,

I have the Samsung A670 which is also 65K, and the screen on it seems to be crisper and brighter than the Nokia. If you don't compare the 6230 with samy then the Nokia has a very nice screen and not cheap looking at all.

I have not had a chance to try the BT yet. So far I have tried the speaker phone, the radio, and the web browser. I am very please with all of these and the great reception it has.

I have also dropped the phone a couple of tiimes from a standing position on to the desk and there is no evidence of that ;)

I hope to get to the rest of its feautures during this weekend.

Sorry I wasn't able you with BT.

Let me know if you get it.

    Gabriel,
I tried to pair the 6230 with my IPAQ 2215 and the phone refused to pair saying "security error". I did not spend a lot of time on it, so it is probably something quite simple that I overlooked. Setting up the phone to recognize the PDA was very simple. I am thinking pairing with the headset will be very easy, I will try it soon.
Yes, it is a new test called the "Drop Test".....LOL.

Atleast I am not venturing into the darkest corner of the dark side.

Me too (on the 6230). I also like the Razr V3, but it would cut deep into my bank account at $499.

Charlyee, no, not yet. I only need to wait until the end of January for a phone replacement from cingular at the heavy discounted cost. Actually I will replace 3 phones at that time. The phone reads very well: tri band, bluetooth, infrared (I use alot with my PDA and PC, and now my laptop has bluetooth), speaker phone, camera and memory module. It has tri band, but I would prefer quad. But I'm stuck on Nokia because the PC suite software is so good, and free.

It is worth the wait until Jan. perhaps other phones will be offered, or a even at lower prices. I note that most of Cingular phones are now $0. But the 6230 is still listed at $149. with rebate included.

What is the significance of the 'b' after your phone?

Well end of January is not too far away. Are you getting 3 of the same phones?

I really like the 6230 and all the features mentioned work very well, I have been very pleasntly surprised at how well the BT works with my PDA. The reception and call clarity is wonderful. More than one person has asked me if I gave up my cell phones and have gone back to using landline. :)

I got my 6230 for around 75 USD in Mayasia, I am not sure if that was the advertised price or it was a special discount for the local company I went with. I chose the US version, actually I think the Eurasian version was cheaper by about $5.00.

The "b" signifies the US version. Why Nokia keeps making 2 version of the same phone for the 2 markets and not quad bands (yes I like the quads also) is a pet peeve of mine...LOL. Maybe someday...

    Charlyee,

Almost certainly I will not get all the same three phones, which is a blessing or curse depending on the point of view. But, with the easy SIM switching, I can try out all three phones.

So far the 6320 interests me the most on Cingular's web site, but I like the quad moto's too. There are also some interesting phones on the nokia web site. For me it will either be tri band or quad. I would like to keep the infrared and an external antenna jack would be nice again, but maybe not possible. I guess that one can be hooked up from the bottom. Your review of the phone has been very helpfull and thanks. Yep, the lack of quad's Nokia bothers me to no end...but they are coming.

Happy Thanksgiving and a good weekend to you and all the Forum members!

I highly recommend the 6230. It is the first phone I plan on keeping for an extended period since the 7210. I find it much easier and less buggy than the 6620.

Well I just bought the 6230! I got a VIP customer flyer in the mail for 250bonus free minutes per month on top of my rollover plan and the opportunity to upgrade my phone a month early. Didn't make sense not to make us of it. Merry Christmas to me! :)
