The 5 nicest airports I have been to in the US are: 1) SFO - Since the opening of the new int'l terminal in December 2000, I really liked coming back home to the Bay Area here. SFO is the bridge to both Europe and Asia for many airlines. 2) Detroit - I've been here only once, neat airport especially with those fountains which spray those odd-looking water spouts. (I don't remember which terminal this was in). 3) Miami - This was a very long time ago (1995). My family and my grandma, her boyfriend and sister (the latter 3 came over from Germany) went on our first cruise. It was 1 AM and so hot at that time in the morning. 4) The new Denver Int'l airport was cool except I remember it being very empty when I was there. It reminded me of a ghost airport. 5) San Jose Int'l (SJC) - Very neat, domestically-oriented airport. I like Terminal A over Terminal C since it's more modern and is built of marble. Now comes my greater level of experience, European airports: 1) Flughafen Koeln/Bonn (Cologne - CGN), Germany - CGN has come a long way in the last 5 years. It has now become the German hub for most of the new cheap airlines which are beating themselves into the ground in order to offer the cheapest flights to places like Italy, Mallorca, Spain etc. Some big players represented in the cheap airlines arena are: Hapag Lloyd Express, Germanwings, easyJet (British) and Lufthansa's charter airline, Condor. CGN has also now become directly to the German high speed ICE train network. The airport train station opened last year in June and now allows travelers to reach Frankfurt Int'l in less than 60 minutes. http://www.airport-cgn.de 2) Duesseldorf Int'l Airport - This airport has also greatly improved since having to rebuilt after the disastrous April 11th, 1996 fire which killed 17 people. 2 of the 3 terminals had to be completely rebuilt. I haven't been there in a couple years but this is the next best airport to fly out to the US. 3) Frankfurt Int'l - What would Germany be as an int'l destination without this airport? Despite the chaos crammed into its 2 modern terminals, FRA maintains a pleasant atmosphere and is also a major thoroughfare for those using the ICE to travel from places like Munich and Stuttgart to get to Cologne and Berlin. 4) London Stansted - A neat 5th airport for London-bound travelers. This airport isn't even located in the Greater London Area but outside of London in the County of Essex. I flew from there a lot when visiting my grandparents and cousins in Cologne while still attending Webster University in London. A lot of British cheap airlines like easyJet are based here. 5) London Heathrow - A lot of us have probably been through this airport at one point or another. This is probably the gateway to Europe and the biggest of London's 5 airports (the other 4 are: London Gatwick, London Luton (again not actually located in London but in Luton), London Stansted and London City Airport (smaller airport located in East London near Canary Wharf and the Docklands section. It is in the general portion of London where you'll find the Tower of London and Tower Bridge).
Yeah, I like both of them. I like the top of Denver's airport......the Tepees. They are cool to see at night when they are all illuminated.
Really I didnt really notice when I was there I guess. I just love seeing the peices of the grand cayon they have there.
Anyone ever been to the McGhee Tyson airport in Knoxville/Alcoa/Louisville? Yea its between those 3 cities. The part of town it's in isnt that nice but overall i think its a pretty good airport.
Im surprised noone has said: San Francisco International (my fave) Vancouver Canada International Portland Oregon International Seatac Washington (not the cleanest or best, but kinda fun to get drunk at.) Denver is nice and new. Kansas city KCI sucks **** but the kickest **** airport in the world is Mexico city Airport, too much stuff going on inside and outside to drive you crazy, its a jungle down there!
Hi XprtCop, welcome back , Look in my post at the top of this page. I mentioned San Francisco as SFO. SFO has improved greatly in the last 2 years. The last time I was back home in the Bay Area in the summer of 2003, SFO had just opened up the BART rail connection both to Millbrae and San Francisco. SFO's interterminal train system, AirTrain, also opened at the same time. Terminal 2 is still closed for renovation but SFO is finally making improvements to its restaurants and bar selection. Have a look at www.flysfo.com to see what I mean .
