From what I have heard- most seem to agree that, for the most part, Cingular and Verizon offer the best coverage, overall in most of NJ. T-Mobile and Sprint are good depending on exactly where you are, but they are also getting better from what I hear/read.
Hopefully someone with more direct information will give you some better advice.
What carrier do you currently have?

I currently have Virgin Mobile. I am looking for a carrier that is cheaper than 18cents a min. I think Verizon is too much because of the access fee. My whole family has Verizon Wireless, but I can't pay 99cents a day, even if I dont use it.

Have you ever thought of just adding a line to one of your family's Verizon accounts? Especially if you don't use your phone all that much, paying the $9.99 access fee per month is not a lot. And since you don't use your phone all that much, your family would not need to up their minutes. Virgin is pretty competitive. ALLTEL also has some very competitive plans, I have an ALLTEL prepay plan and I don't live in their native coverage area and it works great.

I do agree, however, that paying 99 cents per day as an access fee on Verizon prepay is ridiculous, even if you get Unlimited IN-Calling.

Well, I really don't think my family would allow me to be on their family plans.

On STI Mobile, will I need to pay a daily access fee of 10cents even if I don't use it? Also, how popular is STI Mobile?

Are there any company's that have no access fee and have cheap rates?
    (10cents a min)

I'm not all that familiar with prepaid phone service. I haven't heard much from STI mobile, but it looks like they run off Sprint's network, so coverage wise there would not be any surprises to you, coming from Virgin Mobile. The ALLTEL plan I have is 15 cents per minute and no access fee.

T-Mobile is a pretty good deal. I have a prepaid & purchased a 100.00 block of minutes (1000 minutes). This is equal to 0.10 per minute & the minutes are good for a year. No per day fee.

T-Mobile To Go would be the better choice, .10/minute when a $100 card is added and the 1,000 minutes from that would not expire for one year (Gold Rewards).

Amp'd Mobile is 10 cents a minute. Phones are a little expensive though. They use VZW's network and you get the data features....

    EDIT....

Actually I just checked. They have the Moto E815 (E816 Hollywood) for free after a 100 dollar mail in rebate. That is a great deal. Also they have the RAZR, but it is overpriced at 199 after a 100 dollar rebate.

Not a bad website, but it's missing some popular ones, like Virgin and does not mention T-Mobile's Gold Reward Prepay, Verizon's prepay, ALLTEL's prepay, Boost, and others.

i agree...........you go prepaid for one of two reasons

    1)flexibility and no contract
2)you spend less money on your phone than 25-30 a month

when you pay that access fee.......you pay almost $30 and then you pay for the minutes..........Boost Mobile is one of the most expensive after Verizon INPulse............im not too sure on Cingular GoPhones....you just need to be careful of the coverage areas with the GoPhones cuz you get not even half as much coverage as one of their postpay customers is getting cuz there is know roaming on the Pay-as-you-Go GoPhones........the Pick-your-plan GoPhones do have the same coverage as the postpay cuztomers though

Virgin is pretty competitive especially with their penny texting......T-Mobile is 10 cents a minute and they are starting to introduce roaming capabilities to their prepaid customers.......you dont have the same amount of roaming availability as the postpay customers but its getting better and better............in my opinion T-Mobile is one of the best but not for coverage.......i just checked the coverage for NJ on Cingulars GoPhone Pay as you go and it is almost completely covered......most of the East out to Oklahoma and Minnesota and Eastern Texas is pretty well covered........but if you plan on goin out West with a GoPhone........youll have some trouble

Virgin does a prety good job in NJ........Tmobile isnt all that great for coverage in NJ but like i said its rates are very good........Boost is good but its 20 cents a minute during the week and 10 cents during its nights and weekends........nights start at 9.....

yes STI is run off of Sprint and yes there wouldnt be much of a change in coverage

I'm sure T-Mobile is prefectly fine in the area. Check out their coverage map at t-mobile.com. I haven't had one coverage issue in New Castle county here in Delaware with T-Mobile. I'm guessing you come over here sometimes, so you're set here, just check out your area in Jersey. Good luck!

Here is the Amp'd map if you are interested. It runs on VZW, it also roams on carriers like Alltel for voice, not sure about data. The light and dark gray is talking area. Dark color is also EVDO.
