Hello, I just registered here (totally new ). I have been using T-Mobile for more than a year without any blind spot in Los Angeles area. Then, I moved to Long Beach. My phone is totally dead. There is NO signal at all!!! I am planning to switch to another carrier because either millions of minutes or the chepest plan is useless with no reception. Please help me find the right carrier in 90805 area, at the intersection of South St. & Paramount Blvd. Thanks in advance, KoRn
Hello and welcome to WA! You could give Sprint a try. I'm not exactly familar with that specific area of Long Beach but I'm in Long Beach pretty often and have had a good signal just about everywhere I went.
WOW! You are not kidding, that intersection is a dead zone. Most carriers work well in your area. Are their any plan or phone features you like? And which carrier do your friends & family have, mobile 2 mobile can really save you some money.
Yes. I'm not kidding. You can check it out here: http://coverage.t-mobile.com/Compass2/MapPage.asp and put the zip: 90805 Intersection Street 1: E South St Intersection Street 2: Paramount Blvd How lucky I am!? I am wondering if I can also check other carriers coverage? Thanks.
Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7510/3.7.2 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.12) I know Sprint has a tower map, which you can find by searching the forums. Also Verizon has one on their site too. But both are not nearly as good as T-Mobile's.
Wow. Yeah, that is horrible. Time for a new carrier for you. And if you are under contract with Tmobile you probably can get them to waive the ETF too.
I just lloked at my neighborhood on that map. 11236 East 105th street Flatlands Avenue And there coverage as you zoom out looks more and more like swiss cheese. At least they are honest about it.
So, what would be the best carrier in Long Beach area, Sprint PCS? Verizon? Cingular? Unfortunately, I don't have a chance to test coverage with my friends' phones because I just moved here and it's hard to call them from my cell phone :O
It's hard to say for sure without actually testing each one out as reception can vary greatly from one intersection to another. You might have to do the 14 day trial thing to find the carrier that works best for you. If you decide to try out Sprint I would recommend looking at Costco since they have the best return policy as well as prices generally a little bit less than the other retail locations.
I'd consider Verizon as well as they are strong in the LB Area as well. LbMike lives in Long Beach and I'm sure he'll be around shortly to give you first hand experience. I will be in the area next week
Dot not be confused by Sprint's tower map. I live in Laguna Niguel and have excellent Sprint service. The tower map does not show any towers in my area, because it lists only "towers". In Laguna Niguel as in many other cities Sprint has cell sites that are installed on the side of buildings and also on baseball fields. There is a Sprint site on a building that is about 1/2 mile from my home and another Sprint site that is disguised a light pole on a baseball field at Crown Valley Park. I would suggest getting a Sprint phone and trying it out for two weeks. I think that you will fins that Sprint rules in Southern California. -jim
Jim, Did you ever find out what happened with Sprint's application for a new site in LN that was on the city council agenda a few months ago? I can't find any mention of it in the local newspapers and got no reply when I tried to contact the city about it. I assume it was approved but I'd still like to find out for sure.
FYI: yesterday, I went to the Lakewood Mall and took a signal testing shot. I found that even though it has 3-4 bars around parking areas, there is No Network inside the mall at all.
Sorry. I mean T-Mobile!! And, believe me, it's true. I haven't tried Sprint yet. I will go back and try other carriers from the phone shops there. Do you think this way will work? One thing I still like about T-Mobile is that it offers a very cheap family plan compared to others. Actually, I don't make/receive a call that much; most calls I make are between my girlfriend and me within the same shared plan. In addition to the carrier, do you also have any suggestions about the plan?
Sprint Fair & Flexible plans are good because if you go over your anytime minutes there's only a minimal charge. Personally I wouldn't take the roaming option for $5/mo because we don't really need it here in So. Cal unless traveling on Hwy 395 and maybe some places in the mountains. You could also try out Verizon because they're supposed to be very good here as well.
I was waiting to see if you'd actually suggest Verizon as well, because they are very good in So Cal as well, and work great in Long Beach as I have friends living there. Verizon and Sprint would probably be the OP's best bet and if he wants the best possible coverage he should just take both on a 14 day test ride and see which one gives him better coverage at the places he visits/plays at.
On paper the GSM carriers should have the absolute best coverage in CA since they have the most cell sites. But the problem is the network is divided up and has so many users on it.
A while ago I read somehwere that Verizon has marketshare in Southern California. Is that still true or did Cingular take over with the merger? I know that GSM carriers have most cellsites though.
damn dead zones You are just as lucky as i am with this stuff LMAO Verizon looks pretty good Not sure about Cingular or Sprint though....
