I've considered it. I'm still part of the Public Health Service reserves from my three month tour as an ensign over my vet school sophmore year when I trained with pathologists at the National Institutes of health. I was almost called up for the Virginia Avian Flu outbreak at that time, but my supervising officer said I should stay where I was instead of going to the outbreak. I volunteered to go help with the Newcastle disease outbreak in California, but they had so many volunteers they never got to my name on the list before they got the outbreak under control. Hmm... I'm at Colorado State. I might need to go talk to this Dr. Wingfield... Cheers, Stu
OMG Steve...sorry I misworded that! I didn't mean I wanted to take your job :O :O I meant being in armed/unarmed security would be a good retirement gig. But hey, as long as you put a good word in to the next guy, that I may be down in 25 years, VP wouldn't be a bad retirement gig
Steve....if I only knew you when I went to Miami 2 years ago...we would have visited. I won that trip....it was a blast....nice getaway. Next time I will be in Florida....it will be Orlando for the honeymoon in September
What is this "real life" you speak of? I am actually a Bank Teller... can't you hear the excitement in my voice? It's just enough to pay the bills, and pay the bar-tab on the weekends. Which is my life in a nutshell.
How long will you be in Florida Dave? I wonder if you, Steve, and I would possibly be able to meet. But I don’t think there is a central area for us to meet. Unless there is a city that would be central to all of us. :hmm: Maybe Steve could figure that one out. But even if we did have a chance to meet, it would have to be on a weekend, and somewhere central for all us (since unfortunately Orlando is a little more than 200 miles away from me). But then again, I wouldn't want to interrupt your honeymoon. :O
I work for Riddell, I set up and deal with any problems with the laptops that our sales force uses. That is just my main job, I do alot of different things, right now I am in our plant in San Leandro California installing a laundry machine.

I used to be a Domestic Food Services Administrator. In other words, I used to feed an old lady's dog and a cat. Then, I became an Indoor Transportation Services Operator: in other words, I pushed the buttons in a building elevator when someone walks in. Those were times when my life used to go up an down a lot back then. Also, I briefly held positions as On-site Information Delivery Specialist, also known as "the guy that throws the newspaper to your porch", and also as Corporate Revenue Equipment Operator, otherwise known as a cashier at Toys-R-US. Nowadays, I am a Digital Telecommunications/Computer/Media/Network IT Specialist in a college. Also known as a Computer Tech.
I am a researcher in an R&D group trying to figure out how to make computer chips smaller and faster.
on ste Information Delivery Specialist, also known as "the guy that throws the newspaper to your porch", yes ive done that in real life, before.
I'm a job trainee to become a video editor at RTL Television Germany which is part of the RTL Group (largest private broadcaster in Europe, owned by Bertelsmann). In other words, I'm the guy who edits the footage of TV shows that you would see at home (i.e. local news, real-life series (i.e. Forensic Files, COPS etc, keep in mind these are examples so those of you in the US understand what kind of footage/series I mean). The job training program involves the so-called German Ausbildung or apprenticeship (a dual system). You apply for a 3-year job training internship at a German company (for all sectors regardless of whether it's the media or hands-on jobs). Once you're accepted, you sign a 3-year contract. During those 3 years, you are trained in the practical areas of the job you chose at the company and attend school every 8 weeks (2 months). School involves the Berufsschule which is where the theoretical ends are covered. This takes place in 3 or 4 week school blocks. You work for 2 months, then go to school for 3 or 4 weeks, back to work for 2 months and so on. In the field of video editing, anybody wishing to become a video editor and cameraperson has to learn about editing, sound/audio mixing (what a sound engineer does), cameras and basic electrical knowhow. The world of a video editor is comprised of many intersecting technologies ranging from highend equipment to skills that have to be applied just to the postproduction aspect of video editing. At the end of the 3-year job training program, you take a series of practical and written exams. The practical part involves putting together your own short movie (writing the script, working the camera, directing and editing it) and editing it afterwards. If you want to become a video editor, you are tested on your editing knowledge/skills, a cameraperson is tested on their camera skills. You also take a series of written exams which help determine your theoretical knowledge. The exams are administered by the IHK (Industrie & Handelskammer - Industrial Chamber of Commerce) which is the German non-profit NGO that gives you the certificate of completion after passing the practical and theoretical exams. The video editing sector is growing in Germany after being formally recognized as a profession in 1996. In my free time, I'm a member of the Cologne Fire Department's volunteer units division and am assigned to the Loevenich unit (western Cologne).
