Dropped to $2.49 today for 87 octane here in Buffalo . I am so happy I could just --- well who knows but it is getting to the point that I can fill my Suburban for around $100
Down to $1.74 along I-85 in Gaffney, the lowest I've paid since I moved here 3 years ago. Crude is now below $50 today, thats 66% less than it was 4 months ago .
I doubt people are driving 66% less so we have to wonder why it went up to those high levels to begin with? Price gouging to increase profits has to be the main reason. It was an artificially created market by the oil companies and others.
Sepculative and electronic trading along with the overall world demand played a big part in the uptick in pricing. Now with a slowing global economy as well as with decreased demand, supply is outstripping demand and that is why we have a decrease. Also another factor is the strengthening of the US $ has played a bit in the lower prcing where before the producers were getting less value to the dollar and they needed to offset the costs of it s value vs other currencies..
A big key in the summer price hike was the Olympics. China was buying a lot of oil in the year leading up to the olympics. This was to provide enough fuel for busses & taxis that all the visitors would be using, and fuel for the construction equipment to do all the upgrades to the city's infastructure, and the building of the olympic complex. Now that the olympics are over China is somewhat coasting on reserves - using up some of the extra oil they purchased, and didn't use. Because globally demand is down, and China is buying less than normal (for now) the price has fallen quickly. Add the China issue to hurricaine season, coupled with an already weakened dollar and you see what happened over the summer. The price will go back up though, especially since the President-Elect has promised to reinstate the Executive order banning offshore drilling. Notice how quickly fuel prices fell when the olympics were over and the President lifted the ban on drilling at the same time? The futures prices crashed, which made fuel immediately cheaper. -Jay
$1.69 at Raceway I-85 Exit 78 in Spartanburg, I'll be going there later today. I'll be in NJ for Thanksgiving, and roundtrip in gas from here is about $100.
$1.90 for ethanol free 91 at Valero last night. Gas with ethanol is about 15 cents/gallon cheaper here.
I put some gas in my grandmother's car last night. It was $1.75 a gallon at the Valero near my house for 87.
Dropped to $2.35 for 87 Octane today. Local media is reporting that Federal Trade Commision is now looking into price fixing in Buffalo
$1.95 at my local Arco. A friend told me he spotted $1.85 at another station in a neighborring city. These are great prices! I will be happy as long as I am paying less than $2.50. Even $2.75 would still be a fair price.
Bummer. More stations here are starting to switch back to carrying 100% gasoline again. I'd used 2 full tanks with ethanol and my mileage did go down (by about 2 MPG) with ethanol. So I went back to using the "real" stuff!!
Considering I'm driving a full size extended cab 4x4 pickup as my daily driver, I'll take every last bit of advantage I can get as far as mileage is concerned. There is a station near my mom's house that I suspect is not selling ethanol blended fuel, I usually get 2 or 3 more MPG per tank from that station than I usually get. Going to mom's tomorrow, gotta get another tank... Plus gas there is usually 20 - 30 cents cheaper than it is where I live. -Jay
$2.49 for premium at Shell (while traveling through the town of Yucaipa, CA). This is 2 cents less than I paid a week or so ago at a 76 station near where I live.
$1.99/gallon for 87 octane at Mobil. This is the first time in several years that it has been this low.
NJ always had much lower prices than its neiboughring states. The difference at times was as high as 45 cents per gallon.
