On a diesel, yes. My sister was getting discarded peanut oil from a fast food place, straining it and running it in her diesel pickup truck. Your exhaust smells like french fries... You just can't do that in cold temperatures as it gets too thick. In the summer its a great solution though. -Jay
more than $12.00 a gallon soon, and rationing, if you can believe these experts: VIDEO 'Squawk Box' Guest Warns of $12-15-a-Gallon Gas
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D062; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320) bevs in wellston went up 10 cents today. dang.
Earlier today; $3.62 on Route 10 in Roxbury Township, NJ (Morris County), for the cheapest quality gas possible.
Well I saw a news story on the noon news today that analysts are predicting $200/barrel for oil by the end of next year. They said that this means gas at or above $7.00/gallon by the end of next year. I hope this doesn't happen.
I don't see that happening. The oil industry is very much set into a fixed production schedule. Refineries produce x amount of fuel. You cannot increase/decrease that production for increased/decreased demand. Already people are purchasing less fuel. Here in Virginia some moron proposed an increase in the state gasoline tax, because revenues are down. Hello... Revenue is down because gas is so expensive, people are using less. An increase in the tax would make people buy even less. It will get to the point where they will have to lower the price, because they won't have the space to store the oil. The stories you saw on the news are part of our problem though. Increases in the value of oil futures means increases in what we are paying right now.
If people drive less that means less commerce, that is bad for anyone in business. No problem, Congress is going to investigate the oil companies and sue OPEC and outlaw high prices. Instead of permitting ANWR and Costal DRILLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How many people here remember the gas lines of the 70's? I really don't want to deal with that... -Jay
I was in college in the early 70's so, I sure do remember. As I recall it happened a second time in 1979 when gas got close to a dollar for a while, then dropped. We had a lot less demand then too. My theory is that if people are too apathetic to get on the phone to their congress person they deserve to experience sitting in a gas guzzler 4x4, in a line of angry people on odd and even days to get a limited amount of gas. In the 90's we had cheap gas because there was a Democracy in Venezuela and that trumped the Middle East oil. Now of course a dictator who is giving oil to his own people for 12 cents a gallon to appease them is in charge. We got ourself in this situation by trusting the fate of our country to others and to a congress who caves to the crack pots who believe that energy comes from a wall socket and gas comes from a hose connected to a magic box with spinning numbers controlled by some evil billionaires.
Gas hit $4.19/gallon for regular in Rogers City, on tuesday it was $4.07/gallon. Gas rose .12 cents in the last 48 hours.
I bet gas prices wil be up to $4.25/gallon by saturday, at least up here. I'm currently creating a forum strictly for the discussion of gas and oil prices, how it affects people, and how we can get rid of the problem (well thats the main point of the forum). I'm not trying to advertise, but is this a good idea? Honestly.
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D062; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320) bevs jumped 10 cents again to 380. jiffy trip is also 380 in chandler. maverick is 366.
Diesel/gallon is about $4.83/gallon now. Just today I turned on my new forum, called PainInTheGas.net. Check it out.
I'm back in SC. Gas is $3.63 at Murphy USA in Spartanburg, Average here is about $3.69 - $3.75, about the same as NJ prices. The highest I saw between here & NJ was $3.95 near Uptown Charlotte, NC $4.72 for diesel in Mebane, NC
Check out what Shell Oil President says to Congress woman about prices. YouTube - Maxine Waters threatens to nationalize U.S. oil industries
Interesting video. I'm not a fan of Maxine Waters, but I can't say I don't like her idea. Those Oil company execs look like their filled up with gas.. Rat !
Mike ; I understand how many people especially, many younger people perceive that dislike for the so called Fat Cat ceo's. Although, we have to give credence to the fact that the USA has as much oil as the terrorist countries that we are not allowed by law to get out of the ground, due to Congress. It is interesting that in ANWR, where we are not getting oil at present there are actually spots of crude bubbling to the surface. One can actually see oil seeping to the surface! Yet we are not allowed to have it. Ironically that pollutes the wildlife preserves perhaps more that drilling would. Then there is the inevitable pollution of war and economic disaster that will come when most oil is cut off. And China is getting oil off our Coast where Congress will not let us drill. As to Nationalizing the oil companies, Hugo Chavez the dictator of Venezuela did that, he took a free country and took over all private industry. Can you imagine that in the USA? This issue transcends all political issues by the fact that we are even in this position in 2008 that would have been much less severe IF Congress had let us get out our own oil during the last 3 Democrat and Republican administrations. What the so called Fat Cat ceo, was saying is that Congress is the reason that we are in this situation and that $5.00 will look cheap IF they don't face the reality, that we have to use our own resources instead of depending on a small group of terror states who can turn the spigot off anytime and really destroy us. Sure we have to have alternatives. Yet did you know the same Congress people won't approve Coal to Gasoline, or many wind projects? Not to mention nuke power so we can power the Plug in electric cars that may be coming in 10 years. Even natural gas is being held up by Congress. So last night when returning from Philly I paid $4.01 ! NICE! All the best.
We had a tour this morning, and Diesel was $4.65/gallon (we didn't need it then). Went to Mobil this afternoon and Diesel for our Sprinter bus jumped to $4.75/gallon. Regular is $3.95/gallon.
I am in the same situation as you, Mike. It is nice that I graduated this spring, because with my crazy class and team meeting schedule, I was spending around $250-$300 per month to fill up my Suburban. I am actually in the process of seeing how much I can get for my Suburban and possibly trade it in for a Honda Accord, Honda Civic, or another car that gets a LOT better gas mileage.
$4.07 for 89 at Shell, as much as I love my Jeep I am not sure if it is worth keeping it considering I only average 14 mpg. I am in the same boat as you Gamer, when my fuel bill starts to run as high as my car payment it may be time to explore other options.
