Jay, Are you INSANE? For McCain to repeal the gas tax in the summer (peak driving season) is a horrible idea. The price of gas would continue to rise during the summer to overtake that $0.18, then the tax would be added back into it. That tax is used for upkeep of federal highways and infrastructure that is already in poor shape - take away the revenue during the time it would generate the most - that would be devastating. Cedar Rapids - ethanol (89) $3.45, 87 octane $3.55, premium $3.65 (and at some stations each is $0.10 higher) There has to be a better way.
What I want to know is when are we going to get those hydrogen fuel cell vehicles that run on water we hear so much about? If we switched to that we would not need foreign oil. -Jay
*sigh* if only. Know what I find interesting? This week they announced that gas consumption is down (quarter/month, I'm not sure), they released more from reserves - and yet, gas has went up exponentially this month. I thought that the oil companies said that prices are driven by supply & demand. I got a B- in Economics, but I'm quite certain that if supply is up & demand is down, prices are supposed to be down also, right?
In my opinion, prices will continue to climb until people everywhere finally start to cut back on the gas they buy. When the demand goes down, the prices will start to fall. Even if the crude price is high, prices should go down somewhat with demand, but demand really hasn't changed much, therefore, the prices keep rising. In my opinion (for those oil companies), it's better to sell the gas and take a loss, than to not sell it at all.
$3.49 today outside of Manassas, Va. I would have driven to a station that was $3.41, but it was durring rush hour and I didn't want to get stuck in traffic getting there. -Jay
I paid $3.61 for 87 today, the absolute cheapest in the area. The highest station I saw today was $3.90 for 87...i need a job!
I had to ask the fiance on that one. He said the truck we are in right now (An '07 Freightliner) has 2 120 gallon tanks. But a truck he drove previously (Not sure what the make/model was on it) had 2 150 gallon tanks. So it just depends on what you're driving I guess... Gulfshores, AL at a Loves, Reg. Unleaded is $3.44, Diesel is $4.03. ~*Ash*~
I am glad that I am not a truck driver right now. Diesel is one of the most expensive fuels and it would definitely be expensive to fill it up all the way.
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: LG-CU515/V1.0c Obigo/Q05A Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.1.17.06.3.1.17.0) at bevs the cheap stuff is 350. Dang.
well went up another 7 cents overnight . $3.79 today for 87 octane . Some of the Mobil's in town are up to $3.91
oo we are lucky. My mother just got home and showed me a receipt of a gas purchase she just made. Price was $3.26 at Ingle's near the Westgate mall in Spartanburg. (not with the 3 cent discount for gift card). Very crowded, the line was at least 10 cars long, so she couldn't go inside to get the extra 3 cents off. She got about 19 gallons @ $3.269 and it was $62.00. Looking on SouthCarolinaGasPrices.com, it is reported as the lowest priced station in the entire state of South Carolina. Here's the receipt:
I found it for $3.23 Friday morning at a BP on the eastern edge of Norfolk off of I-264 that runs it for 5 cents off on Fridays and filled it up. It was $3.28 there Thursday and jumped to $3.39 Saturday morning so I got it at the right time. I couldn't believe it because the Shell just down the road was over $3.60 and the Exxon was at $3.39. There's 4 gas stations off the exit and generally I can drive though the entire state of Virginia east to west to near Bristol and won't find it cheaper than it is here. The Raceway is usually the cheapest and was at $3.25, but for some reason my car always has a little trouble starting the next morning after filling up there so that's a station I avoid.
I have noticed at the Raceway here that I guess less mileage in my Suburban. When I fill up at Mobil (which I always try to do), I usually get anywhere between 500-520 miles of range with a full tank. If I fill up at Raceway, I can only get between a range of 460 to 480 on a full tank.
It depends... If Raceway is selling an ethanol blend you will get less mileage than 100% gasoline. In my area ethanol fuel is mandated, all stations sell it. If you are not in a tightly regulated urban area some stations may be selling ethanol blends, while others are selling 100% gas. -Jay BTW - I filled up for $3.44 @ Raceway in Manassas. I usually get 14 city and 20 - 25 highway in my truck.
Do they have to state on the pump that it is a 10% ethanol blend? I know in Lincoln, Nebraska ethanol blended gas is sold and is usually 10 cents cheaper than 87. I am unaware of any stations in my area that sell 87 with an ethanol blend.
I believe they are required to mark somewhere on the pump that it is an ethanol blend. I know in my area before all stations were mandated to sell blended fuel Raceway sold nothing but ethanol blends. Often it was marked on the side of the pump, not the front. You could also try asking the attendent at the station, they should know. I would venture to guess that Raceway is selling ethanol blends. -Jay
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D062; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320) I gassed up at a murphy in edmond. 3.40 was the price but I paid 3.36 with my walmart discover card.
The cheapest here in Laredo, Texas is 3.44 for 87. On the other side of town its 3.50 The little towns around here are at 3.50 to 3.60, it actually went down 2 cents form yesterday. it usually takes 40 dollars to fill both my cars. It last about 2 weeks got love those cars with good gas millage
The raceway here has a sticker on every pump that says 10% ethanol. It doesn't appear to be specific to any grade of fuel. But that's interesting about the gas mileage, if you get worse gas mileage there it's probably worth it to pay a little more elsewhere. One thing about blended gas is that ethanol boils off at a fairly low temp. I can't help but to wander how much of it is just evaporating off in the tank before it ever makes it to the fuel line .... just the little things I spend my day wandering about! lol I just topped off today at the BP for $3.20/gallon for a 10% blend 87 while the Raceway was up to $3.35.
$3.39 for regular in Gaffney along I-85 (exit 90), down from $3.44. E-85 is around $3.19, Diesel is $3.99 at I-85 exit 90.
E-85 should be cheaper because of its alcohol content you don't get the same mileage as gasoline. In this area stations that do have E-85 charge the same price as regular gasoline. A few months back a news crew was hanging out at a station watching the E-85 pump, and the whole time only one person used it, although they noticed many E-85 capable vehicles at the other pumps. -Jay
I hear that It's rare or impossible to find E85 right now in the Northeastern US. From what I've seen here in Upstate SC, on average, about 1 in 10 stations carry E-85. (Usually at Spinx Gas Stations):
Here in the DC area the local news crew seems to find these stations, but if I had an E85 capable vehicle I would not know where to buy it. I think you have to drive to downtown DC to buy it, and I avoid anything inside the beltway whenever possible. -Jay
