I have read att does not count the n75 as a smart phone, so the 15.00 data plan would work. I am not sure if that is totally correct or not. Does anyone know of something comparable performance wise to the nokia. I like how the n75 looks, but have read bad review after bad review concerning the battery life. I dont really want a full blown pda/smartphone, but do want better performance than a standard phone. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks.
the phone is good. i would recommend it. that data plan will work, yes. the battery life is only an issue if you do not adjust your screen brightness and the length of time it stays on. a simple adjustment that like will add 1 day to the battery life. keep in mind, that many people that upgrade phones have old antique phones that have 0 features. so people that go from having phones that last 1 week to 1 day suffer shell shock. as long as you expect it, and understand you need to charge daily, youll be fine.
Another phone option available soon is the Nokia 6650, which has the same Symbian Series 60 menu system as the N75 and is also 3G. One way to keep the battery from draining quickly on Nokia phones is to switch the packet data connection to "When needed" versus "Always on". You can do this through Settings > Connectivity.
This is only true with the old firmware. Once you get to the new firmware, this setting no longer exists. On a good note, though, the battery performance is not degraded by this lack of setting adjustment. The only time battery life might be a problem is if you a generally in an area of low signal, forcing the phone to change to stronger towers a lot, like where I live. When I leave this are though, I get 3-4 days on a charge. It is a good phone, especially if you're looking for a smartphone option, without the higher priced plans. I no longer use my PDA because everything I used to use that for I now do on my N75. The only thing it doesn't have is WiFi. In my area this phone is no longer sold, not that the stores ever knew much about it. It was Nokia's poor stepchild, lacking the frequency of updates that many other model shave. There has only been one update, and that was edited by ATT.
