Elton John - Honky Chateau,1972. Just listened to the whole album (on CD of course). Remember when there were albums? That was awesome. SW
So a quick scan of this page shows Adrian Belew, Hendrix, John McLaughlin. I guess you like guitarists. I'm not familiar with some of the other stuff you listen to but I know these old guys. SW
I do like my guitarist. Growing up with access to a huge record collection I really like a lot of music, jazz & blues from the 50's to metal.
As I also guessed from your avatar. I generally dislike commercials where someone famous is trying to sell me something. But how can you not like a commercial featuring Eric and Buddy Guy? As it happens, I went to high school, not with Adrian Belew, but with another amazing guitarist who's famous for playing with Bowie - Reeves Gabrels. Personally, I like almost all kinds of music except rap and hip-hop (which don't seem like music to me). There is certainly some jazz and modern classical music that's a little too advanced for me, but I generally like blues, jazz, classical (roughly Beethoven and earlier), folk, classic soul/R&B, rock and even a little country once in a while. SW
I like that show... CBS seems to crank out shows I like I am streaming the Kim Komando Show from News/Talk 750 WSB on wsbradio.com , my favorite hometown station:biggrin:
Eric is awesome, but I wanted the phone way before the commercials aired. My uncles went to high school & played in bands with Joe Ramsey (Dread Zeppelin) & Micheal Anthony (Van Halen). I am right there with you on the rap/hip-hop not really being music. It really is missing one key musical trait, which is melody. Jimi Hendrix - Dolly Dagger
Ain't that the truth! I'm watching "Undercover Boss" right now on CBS. I record about 9 prime-time series during the week and they're all on CBS. Not a CBS super-fan, but they seem to have ALL the shows I like to watch too... Side note: WSB is iconic in Atlanta (as you know Quint). Both WSB Radio and TV are top-ranked in the Atlanta market. They are both also the most influential radio and TV stations in the South.
My ALL time favorite song: "I Feel Love" (1977) by Donna Summer. Georgio Moroder is the master behind the song. It sounds as good in 2010 as it did 33 years ago when it was released. This song was a ground-breaker when it came out and was highly influential in the emergence of Electronica in the years to follow... Wikipedia's take on the song: I Feel Love - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yes, ATL is definitely a Cox city (WSB AM/FM/etc is part of Cox Radio; WSB TV is part of the Cox TV group, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is a Cox paper... ATL is corporate home of Cox Cable as well)... As you can imagine, I get my WSB fixes when I visit Atlanta Anyway, I am listening to Winner by Jamie Foxx... I just heard "I'll Stand By You" by Shakira on the Hope for Haiti album. I am really digging "Who Lotta Love" by Mary J Blige... the song is much more like rock (to me) than R&B. I like it when an artist strays from their roots
Lilac Wine - Jeff Beck feat. Imelda May Jeff's new album is really good. I was a bit worried when the reviews mentioned orchestras and such, but the mixing is so well done it all fits together very well.
Ramblin' Man - Allman Brothers (1973) Speaking of guitarists, Dickey Betts isn't too shabby. I hadn't listened to the Brothers and Sisters album in a long time. Even the non-famous songs are good, and Betts and Chuck Leavell on piano are amazing. SW
I'd Love To Change The World - Ten Years After From the compilation: Essential Ten Years After (Chrysalis). Even though the lyrics are a bit reactionary, the blending of acoustic and electric guitars (both played by the great Alvin Lee) is the best I've ever heard in a rock song. Still gives me chills after all these years. SW
