according to sprintsitesusa.com, sprint pcs has a tower in Scottsbluff, Nebraska (fairly new, added about 6 months ago). but the sprintpcs website doesn't list scottsbluff as having coverage. actually, they don't even have it listed as a roaming area, but I was able to roam there last year. anybody know what the deal is?
I'm not a Sprint PCS customer, but I travel through that area all the time. I don't believe SPCS has any coverage in Scottsbluff, though Qwest wireless secretly does (and I'm thinking maybe Sprint will buy Qwest's infrastructure there as part of their pending deal). Sprint is the local wireline carrier in Scottsbluff, however. I am willing to bet that the site they claim to have available in Scottsbluff is an old microwave tower that stands next to their wireline central office. The microwave dishes were removed long ago, and it appears that it is only being used for a local wireless internet provider so there is plenty of room. JK
There aren't any photos available on sprintsites, but the address of the tower is 2806 Ave D, and the address of the switch is 2802 Ave D. Looks like you may have solved the mystery. Maybe they added it to the sprintsites database in an attempt to sell space on it? Thanks JK!
Yes jk870 called it correct. Not all of Sprints towers that they own are PCS coverage towers. Some belong to the landline divison and are not active. They are likely just trying to lease it out.
