Weren't Cingular V180s sold as triband?

I just got hold of an old V180 from a friend who was switching to Verizon from Cingular. I did get him to get the unlock code from Cingular before he cancelled service.

Anyway, I was thinking that the phone was triband based on everything I had heard. So, I went in to the 0025 seem and bits 0, 1 and 3 of offset 00 was already set. Similarly in the 0032 seem, bit 0 of offset 50 was already checked. It seems that the phone was already configured as quad band.

I had always believed that Cingular V180s were triband. What gives?

Either the phone was modified by someone or it actually came from Cingular that way. It it came from T-Mobile, then it would have been a tri-bander since T-Mobile until mid-2005, was disabling 850MHz on its phones. Since Cingular has both 850MHz and 1900MHz licenses, unlike T-Mobile, it would not make sense for them to have disabled either band.

The phone is stock from Cingular. And I thought that one of the non-North American bands was disabled but it appears that both 900 and 1800 are activated on the phone.

The early model V180's from Cingular were triband, but later models were quadband. My sister gave me her old V180 to play with and it has quadband enabled. I know she didn't mess with the phone.
