A accountant friend called and said he needed to buy a new laptop and asked me to join him. (He uses me as his tech advisor.) After answering some questions and making sure that a Best Buy rep was helping him, I stepped away to look at the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. They had it in White and Blue. Just as I had read repeatedly, the case is indeed more slippery than texturized plastic case on my Note 3. I've got to admit that comparing mine to the Note 5, the display was very much improved. My friend walked over and I started slamming Samsung for the "take-aways" they did on this version (non-removeable battery, non-expandable memory). The Samsung rep overheard me and came over and got into an argument with me. In the end he said something to the effect: "I am paid by Samsung so I'm compelled to defend them, but I am off the clock and I will admit that you are not the only one upset about this new phone." He acknowledged my use-case might be a valid reason for the two issues I have. I then backed off and acknowledged that much of my viewpoint is because I got used to the way things were and I hate change, especially when I perceive it as a backwards move. He asked me if I wanted to buy the Note 5. I told him I'm waiting until November when the Note 5 Active is released with the 4100mAh battery. He hadn't heard about and thanked me. We parted ways on friendly terms and shook each other's hand.
You're right. So Apple is also out because an iPhoney is 40% Samsung, including the screen. (Even the Samsung rep knew that, LOL)
Knowledgeable prospective customers are probably a real pain for all cell counter reps. I'm sure it is much easier handling the "just give me what everyone else has" crowd. On the other hand, maybe some debate is refeshing for them.
@KevinJames , here's some more ammunition to keep you away from the Note 5. http://www.engadget.com/2015/08/25/note-5-stylus-issue/
@CDG: Yes, I'd already read that. Another poster (on another site) also noted that the bezel-less frame is a pain because their fingers wrap around to the screen and make it difficult to use because the screen detects unwanted presses. I already experience that on my Note3 and when I picked up the Note5 I noticed how much more of a pain it is. It seems that whatever the "I like the appearance of the device" crowd wants is actually anti-functional. (No bezel, glass body, super-thin, etc.)
That and the Moto X Style. Time will tell. Just got back from the oncologist. He said I have 3 to 15 years more of life. (I thought that was an odd span, but oh well.) So that means I have at least one to 7 more smartphones to go.
So wouldn't that make the iPhone 6 or 6+ 60% more attractive? Actually the Samsung rep is a bit confused. The iPhone 6 series is not made with 40% of Samsung parts—rather 40% of iPhone 6 series have the A8 processor chips made by Samsung and 60% of the iPhone 6 series chips are made by two other companies. Apple designed the chip in all three cases. Apple doesn't like to be tied to one supplier. And NONE of the displays are made by Samsung. Instead they are made by LG and Japan Display. Besides the iPhone display is LCD, not OLED. http://recode.net/2014/09/23/teardown-shows-apples-iphone-6-cost-at-least-200-to-build/ http://appleinsider.com/articles/14...ying-40-of-apple-a8-chips-for-iphone-6-6-plus Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
@viewfly: Don't confuse me with the facts. LOL. (The primary reason I wouldn't go with Apple is no longer my "issues" with them. It is a matter of my investment in the Android, in time, experience, and apps. I still don't like Apple, but that isn't the primary reason.)
@KevinJames. Agreed. I wouldn't want you to switch. I don't have the energy for all questions! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep, the carriers, in particular, seem to not like the smart folks all that much. Every time I visit a Verizon store for various requests, they see my unlimited data plan and just say "oh". Don't go there buying a phone at MSRP expecting quick service. Lol Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
I really like the looks of the Note 5. However, only having 64GB of intenal storage and no removable battery killed it for me. At least with my 6 Plus I know I can get at least 2 days between charging with moderate usage. I don't think I could say the same thing for the Note 5.
@Eileen89: Having a new phone is always a wonderful thing. I hope it serves you well. A couple "real" posters (not professional writers) have indicated getting up to a little over one day with their Note5. The latest announcement is that Samsung is purportedly going to feature "Project Valley" (a folding phone) in January 2016. However, the source of that report is not known for reliability.
