I agree, now of course each phone manufacturer has had their batch of bad phones as you all know, but i think overall now a days we are getting more reliable handsets than we used to get, i guess opinions like the ones posted here makes for manufacturers of cell phones to give us better and more reliable handsets.

Steven, that's a good question, but like i said before, let's not forget that the network also comes into play when talking about RF and media/browsing as well...

Verizon has had a good relationship with LG ever since the release of the LG 510, from then on LG phones have come one after the other, from the LG4400 to one of Verizon's best sellers the LG 6000, don't believe me? check E-Bay, still one of the most popular phones for sale there and finally the LG 8100 and LG 5200, i think that if LG was not a good handset the mighty Verizon (like some claim around here) would not have such a good business relationship with Verizon don't you think?

Steven, i guess i should answer your question now...lol
LG phones pretty much have all the features that any other high end phone might offer and sometimes at a lower price i.e. Razr...
some also love the easy ui/user interface they offer as well as the ability to hack their "programming menu"...:browani:

Aagh, you just reminded me of my 10 month ordeal with my Moto T720...LOL.

But ofcourse as I have mentioned here before the T720 is what drove me to look for help and join WA, so It couldn't be all bad.

Thanks Tony....and I totally agree that the RF thing is, in my opinion, about 70-80% of the determining factor. I know that I have spent SO much money on phones just looking for the BEST RF and fast Internet. The Nokia 6682 has been close to flawless, giving me signal in places that were very weak before, however, I do live in a major metro area that has been completely integrated-POST MERGER, and it shouldn't be rocket science. I want to believe that any GSM...LG phone would have great RF on Cingular, I guess that NEW things are uncomfortable. I dumped the Treo because I hated the Palm platform. I have been looking at the iMate allot......but it is as big as a book-lol. I guess I just need to be patient until Moto makes an 870 for GSM, or Nokia makes a Quad Band flip, or the N80 finally gets here!! Thanks again!!!:)

Tony, at the risk of generalization, something that I don't like doing, do you think that CDMA LG phones are superior to GSM LG phones? seems like I read a few statements like that on this board.

    Thanks

If you tell me that I may be a little biased towards wireless carriers ,that's one thing but I am certainly not biased towards cell phone makers. I still think that my VX6000 looked better than my Moto sometimes, but I did experience issues with connecting calls sometimes where the phone would say "calling" forever and go from 4 bars to 1 and back up or would, while just ideling, go from 5 bars down to 1 and slowly back up. My Moto is not doing these things. I have also tried using both phones side by sides in areas where cellular service is weak/nonexistant(some mountain locations, along the Green River in Southeastern UT, Kennecott Copper Mine, and others) and my Motorola would ring with an incoming call(the phone was in my pocket at that time) while my LG, holding it in my hand, switched between no service and 1 bar of unusable service.

The strange thing about that is that some people raved about the reception on that phone and other people hated it. I had some friends with that phone who hated it(and there was obviously something wrong with the phone) but others whose T720 performed very, very well.

Aah, you must read minds, i was just typing a comment about LG and GSM...

I was going to comment that while LG phones seem to perform well on the CDMA network, the same doesn't seem to stand for their GSM divison...

Why do you think that is? ( good subject for conversation)...

Ok Tony here is my completely non-technically 2 cents. LG is a Korean company and Korea of course is CDMA. So LG caters to the HUGE domestic market and has perfected their CDMA line. They have not put nearly as much effort in their GSM phones because the GSM market is pretty saturated with the Motos, the Nokias, the SEs etc.

    What's your perspective?

Andy, you are not a little biased you are absolutely, thoroughly, and completely biased about your wireless carrier....LOL.

I also remember when I had the 6K you were a die-hard fan of LGs and were trying to convince me that that the 6100 was much better than the Samy A670. Where was your Moto love hiding at that time?......:D

You mean there is actually an article like that? I thought I completely made that up on my drive back from Milwaukee......LOL

I was on the old forums at the same time as you were remember? I read every post that the resident LG expert wrote at that time, having been the then proud owner of the first LG phone & the first camera phone. :D

    Sad...you guys make me feel....unwanted. :)

OKay, Okay, I am biased I admit it, but I do give the other side a fair shot. I am trying out Cingular as we speak...;)

I did rave about my 6000; I still think that it was one of the best phones I've ever had, but after switching to Motorola two things that simply stand out are battery life and reception. I still often use my 6000 just because I still think it's one of the best Verizon phones ever.

My brother uses the 6000 as well except he managed to damage the screen some months ago and hasn't gotten around to going to VZW to get it replaced. As a further amendment to the LG discussion, I should add that LG has made an entry into the European market in the last couple years. Here in Germany, their phone selection includes several GSM and GSM/UMTS models (i.e. the U8290). T-Mobile and O2 carry their handsets.

Same thing Nokia went through. They made great GSM (and TDMA) phones, but up until a few years ago their CDMA phones were horrible, and I am qualified to say this because I used a Sprint 6185 for 2 years.:D I thought it performed OK for me, but coverage around here was really good, if I got out into rural areas, other Sprint phones were far superior.

What can I say? I love my service. Especially since almost everyone I call is on Cingular as well I get to talk as much as I want for $40/mo, Cingular gets the really cool handsets first, plus there's the added bonus that only Cingular GSM service works at my folks's house.

No. I have it programmed as NAM1.

Should I program it to NAM2? What does that do? Can I still fall back onto their network if I program it to NAM2?

I might try their prepaid coverage out in the near future. But as of right now, I am sticking to Verizon since most of my calls will be m2m. :)

Don't get me wrong. Cingular's network is good, but a couple of my calls lately (before I ported over to Verizon) were garbled. :( I think it has to do with the lack of towers in and around my campus.

Shh Jay, don't say that too loud. Steven thinks he is a super duper sales and marketing person and he will be completely crushed to see that a mere engineer can talk a Moto man in possibly buying a Nokia.....LOL
