Of course I'm a little nervous after just reading that someone's sales rep lied to them about Sprint offering two phones on on plan (I just did that)... Ultimately it was two things that sold me on Sprint: 1.) The Sanyo 5300 phone. It was love at first sight. S-W-E-E-T phone from what I can tell. 2.) Unlimited PCS to PCS. With the G-friend in San Jose, it was necessary. Now for the first night results: Summary: This phone seems great but the online services didn't seem to work right and got very frustrating. Reception: From Brea to Corona without a single glitch. Crystal clear reception...10x better than the same trip using GSM/Cingular The Good: Camera built into the phone, downloadable ring tones, TFT color display, apparently great service (solid at home in Corona...Cingular DEAD) The Bad: NO BLUETOOTH OR MAC SUPPORT. I spent two frickin' hours entering names and numbers...the T68i could've done all 200 names in one click. Also, how the hell do you just set a simple alarm on this thing? It lets me set an alarm to CALL some number I put in, but I just want a wake up call. Nothing in the manual about that (my Nokia 3390 did that very easily) The Ugly: Sprint's online stuff crashed on me. It let me order one ring tone then gave some vague error every time I tried to order more. There are apparently multiple passwords on the web areas, but i was only asked to provide one (which logs me in the main part but doesn't work in other areas). Everytime I try to connect to download the one ring tone I successfuolly ordered (James Bond Theme) from the phone, I get some numbered error and a message saying that I might have to call Sprint to correct the problem. Other than that last part I think I'm going to like this serviice..unless of course my rep lied about something...then I'll cancel like a Michael Jackson concert. GOODBYE to the worst year of cellular service in my life (Cingular), hello cool new phone and better reception!
This will happen if you havent properly set up a "Vision" password. The password to manage your account (at log on) is NOT going to work in a Vision area. It isnt set up to do so.
Congrats...It wont be too long before you make a future post that states "Well It's Done! Dumped Sprint, now with Verizon" \
I'll never understand why people get all "ra ra" about one carrier versus another. It seems a bit zero-sum to me. More than one carrier can be good at a time, dontcha think. In my personal experience, I can say that T-Mobile and Sprint have both been good to me. ATT has been pretty mediocre. Adding friends' experiences, I've also heard middling to bad things about Cingular and Verizon. In a nutshell. Welcome to Sprint. I think you're in for some great reception.
im glad to hear a happy sprint customer. with your vision device you should check out some of the free vision sites that offer free ringers and stuff one is http://www.3gvisioncorrection.com http://www.3gscreensaver.com and there are few sites that offer free games and stuff..most of the are clones but still free check out http://www.microjava.com/downloads http://23457.net/home.asp http://www.midlet.org
Well Paul, I'm glad you have a smily face at the end of your post. I'm assuming that means you're being tongue in cheek about my experience. Honestly, I'm not into slamming a company for little things. I have an extensive list of problems with Cingular's GSM offerings. I spent 3 times as much time going over the plan with my Sprint rep than I did with the Cingular one, because I don't intend to be taken again. She was very accomodating and I made sure we were BOTH clear on what the contractual obligations mean. I have had this phone for 3 days now and I can tell you without a doubt how much better it is. The mere fact that I get full signal strength and can carry on lengthy conversation AT HOME is leaps and bounds about Cingular GSM coverage in Corona, CA. I used to have to walk around the house looking for a spot to get one single bar of coverage, and then 90% of my conversations got dropped. Oh and thanks so much for the tips on the vision web pages! I really appreciate it. I've never had these kinds of services on a phone before.
Yes, Kurtster I was tongue in cheek...and thanks for understanding Actually, all providers have some flaw(s) whether it's in coverage, equipment, customer care, calling plans. Everyone likely has some past experience that guides their choice of plan. Those that don't do research. My bottom line is based primarily upon presonal experience. In the past, I've used Cellular One, Sprint, ATT, Verizon. Blend past experience with comments from this and other forums I made a decison to go with Verizon. What works for me may not work for someone else. No right answer in this wacky subject!!!
pretty soon I expect to see a thread that states, 'Miss Cingular- wish I could go back'... All the cingular thrashing in the Ca area seems really overdrawn. Sprint couldnt even, until recently, be used in my part of califonia. And even now, the coverage is lacking. I've been up and down different parts of california and experience no problems..... Also, is it funny that in the west forums there are alot of T Mobile customers that USE Cingular's gsm services.. that should tell people something....
I guess it's hard to just accept that this guy switched to a company and is satisfied with them and you have to sit here and talk **** about it.
Testy, testy I don't know who your pointing a finger at, but the posts on this thread seem to be reasonably light-hearted and not malicious. I think everybody understands there is no "right" answer to service selection. If it works then go with it. As I said in a previous post, what works for one person may not be the right choice for another. No right answer in this wacky subject!!!
Well for me and my household at one time or another, we had Cingular, AT&T, Sprint and Nextel. That said, all have been both very good, or very bad, sometimes... at the same time! The question is, are we as consumers going to tolerate a companies shortcomings? What do we choose accept? Zero tolerance could mean no provider is worth a dime. But we make allowances. I suggest we don't waste too much time hating or loving a cell phone company. They all do what they do. We consume, and if we don't like the service, move on. Or not.
In MY world, Sprint PCS has been wonderful.......(borrowing from PaulG)... Everyone likely has some past experience that guides their choice of plan.
Yeah Sliver I'd be interested in hearing your SprintPCS horror stories. I've been absolutely stoked with mine so far so I'd love to know where they dropped the ball for you.
My experience was mixed. I had Sprint PCS for two years. Adequate coverage, good voice quality, but the customer service people were horrible to deal with. Half the time, they don't write things down, so you are left pursuing a problem over and over again. When I complained about dead spots, they just didn't care. I dumped them for Verizon in late October and I'm glad. Sprint didn't deserve my business. With Verizon, on the rare occasions I've called about dead spots, they logged the report, and I gather they actually sent out service people to check out the problem and try to make things better. Nobody is perfect, but Verizon, so far, deserves the money I pay them. Sprint--forget about it!
No carrier whether it be Sprint or Verizon will be able or willing to fix a dead spot just for one complaint. Even if they do plan on improving an area (after receiving a number of complaints) it could easily take up to 2 years for all of the necessary approvals and land deals to come through.
