Wake Island was directly hit by super typhoon Ioke about a week ago. 180 mph winds and an 18' storm surge on an Island that is a maximum of 16' above sea level. I saw some pictures on the news from the island today, and it looked like the communications tower was still standing. I'll have to find some photos of that.
Nope that was in the Marshall Islands (Bikini & Enwtok). Wake was the island we kicked the crap of the Japanese for a few weeks until it was overwhelmed.
Cellonetech, it was most definitely the Marshall Islands. The reason I know is my dad took part in the H-Bomb test in the late 40's there when he was in the Air Force. Wake had an airbase on it and now it's a meteorlogical station.
I watch a ton of the History Channel and remember seeing a show on it. I looked it up on the net. The Airforce still keeps 100 something troops on it and use it as a airfield and for maintanence.
