I missed the 10TV report, but I'll be honest, I have only found one place where Sprint doesn't work for me where Verizon did (inside buildings at Otterbein). This cancels out with Verizon near the CSCC "campus" in Westerville. Often times I would lose signal and force my phone to roam onto Sprint there. I would put the two pretty much equal here in Columbus.
Ahh...but now we just put up the all-important "North Campus" Tower at OSU...specifically to handle the Horseshoe overload. I would be interested in checking out Larkins Hall, which before was like a lead-lined bomb shelter and the only place in Columbus I ever lost signal. Second....I still can't get this 31-page v60p thing from that website! I just downloaded acrobat reader and still all I get is a blank page! What am I doing wrong. (EDIT) Duh. Never Mind. It works now. Only took me 24 hours.
I know we are straying off topic just a teeny bit...but... Ceno, I know you said we were NOT going to be selling the V60X. But in reading that PDF file on the V60P I see that the PTT beta testing phones were basically modified V60X's. So why would they not carry them? I think there is still a market for an improved V60 even w/o the PTT functions.
I couldn't wait any longer for PTT...I decided to get rid of my 720 and go to a 530. This is without a doubt the best phone I've ever used. I'll most likely upgrade to Samsung's PTT phone when that's released. About PTT...I've heard a couple things in the last week. I talked to customer service a little and after a little BSing, the lady told me it's looking like it'll launch right after Labor Day. I talked to my boss about it and he said he's been hearing the same thing. That's not so bad...one more month it looks like. Hopefully Delta isn't committed to a mental institution before then... "I don't know what's wrong doctor, all he'll say is 'PTT.' And he won't let go of this phone...it looks like a Motorola v60."
Why do people insist on continually believeing what customer care says about release dates when we have repeatedly stated that CC is on strict orders NOT to tell you?? IE: Nothing they say is true! I, for one, am not getting my info from customer care. You can get general timeframe ifo out of them...if you know HOW to ask. No, I will not be going crazy (er) any time soon!
So does VZW have a definitive name for this PTT service? I have heard something like Express It? Does any one know or can anyone say? I hate Sprint as equally as Nextel, fortunately I don't have to use sprint anymore but at least sprint officially released a name for their service. I cannot understand why everything is so secretive with VZW. I imagine before Q4 2K4 all major carriers will have a PTT service.
Yeah the v60p is basically just a modified v60x. The first beta models were just v60x's with new software and clip on speaker phones. I absolutely agree that we should carry it, for those people that don't want the PTT, but we won't. If we were going to, it could've been out back in April... at one point VZW actually had the v60x's on order from Motorola and announced that it would launch on a rolling market basis as v60i stock was depleted. That never happened though. As for all these tentative release dates...labor day... end of the year... blah blah blah... I can only laugh. NO ONE in customer service is going to tell anyone when it launches. They're not that stupid. As a matter of fact, most of them don't even know the launch date. They will be just as surprised as the rest of you guys when it comes out.
I have not heard anything, though I hear that "express it" (dumb) has been trademarked. All we ever call it is Push-to-Talk.
Knock knock....I'm back to at leat keep this post alive. (even though it wasn't dying) BTW If anyone wants to camp outside the VZ store with meh on the night b4 it comes out, I'll come to your store if you want. I got an idea for a sign that we can use while we sit there....I got the idea from this other news report from some guys camping out in NYC....it reads: Not a bum...just first in line!
I have a feeling we will all know probably a week before it comes out and their going to have a Marketing Blitz on TV to promote it. Or maybe they'll just Post pone it untill January 25th Then do it during the Superbowl....
Hey I thought I recognized you behind the mask your Denny Strigl what's up bro? LOL Do you know why this new service is being held so secretive? I could understand keeping Proprietary stuff private and confidential but d&mn they could at least come out and Officially name the beast they have created.
You WILL know THAT DAY. Verizon hired 3 million people, and their only job is to shake people awake that day and hand them the morning paper with the full page ad...then on to the next house!
<puts on his robe and wizard hat> (hehe...bloodninja...) It is so secretive because it is going to be the coolest thing since sliced cheese.
anyone that has seen the phone, does it have any lettering on the "PTT" button like "PTT" (many of the FRS radios have that, just wondering..) or is it just unlabeled like the smart key and up/down keys are/were?
Well looks like I need to get me a good lounge chair to sit back and wait for the sound of the trumpets
was just wondering, passing time making conversation until they show up.. I already know which button based on pictures... /nevermind
I'm about ready to sue Verizon just for the Information. Come on Verizon this is not "Shock and Awe" military campaign just tell us what it's called and when your gonna release it. How difficult could that be.
BTW I realized that my info might be as shady as the answers that we get from the regular Verizon employees. HOWEVER, I called Moto to verify and spoke with a rep. He told me that they received a troubleshooting guide for VZ PTT. It basically gives them info for when soccer moms call up and can't figure out how to make a phone call. Oh yeah....if you ALSO have no idea when it's ACTUALLY coming out. Don't bother me with your posts that say..."Nope!" Honestly, I could give a rats ___ what you think. I was excited and trying to be of help. Forgive me for the aforementioned! Next time I'll keep the info to myself and laugh my ballz off.
Here is my question to someone who works for verizon. Typically, how long is it from the time it is an "approved" device untill it is released to the public? And, excuse my ignorance, but what is PRL?
Wow....this has been an exciting day...everyone is getting real rattled over this PTT. Let me try and clear the air. Yes, there are a few here that know when. However they or we STILL are not allowed to talk. They or we can STILL lose jobs if they do. Yet, people here, while being understandably excited, STILL keep asking those who know to tell. Look, knowing the launch date is more of a curse than a blessing. People in the know TRY and pass on what they can. I, for one, have repeatedly told people not to get all wound up over whatever Customer Care, Motorola, Their sisters best friends cousins boyfriend who lives across the street from a Verizon guy told them. I have TRIED to tell people in this forum that they will be INTENTIONALY misled about the launch date, because misinformed people help them to keep the secret safe. Do I think it's right that they treat this like "Shock and Awe" (I loved that by the way..) NO, I don't. I don't think a lot of things are right. I don't think it's right that Corporate Verizon gets to sell it and make indirect agents wait. That's harder on the customer, especially where I work. Can I do anything about it? No I can't. We try and drop as many hints as we can to at least give you some sense of satisfaction that it may be here soon. And I don't think a month away is anything to get excited about, trust me. Another reason why we wouldn't tell even if we could is this...if they DID bump it back again, we would look stupid. I really don't believe they will. Trust me, we WANT to tell people! Heck, I'M not even supposed to know! You wouldn't BELIEVE what I had to go through to dig that up! So lets just all calm down don't get mad at us for not telling, and we won't get mad at you for asking. But read the posts. It seems a lot of subtle hints have been dropped here and there and no one even catches it. Remember....SOON! We'll all be laughing soon and you too will realize why I believe the company called Nextel COmmunications is Doomed.........
Approved device to public: No certain amount of time I can think of. PRL= Preffered Roaming List. Don't ask me to explain it, but if you dial *228 to update your phone, one of the things you will see is "PRL Download OK" It's tech stuff. I just sell phones. I could probably answer that better had I not forgotten the website address he is refferring to...on the tip of my tongue, just wont come!
i woulda posted this in that other topic but its locked and your asking questons right now so how old do you have to be to work for verizon or someone?
A PRL is a list of system ID numbers programmed into the phone in a prioritized order, to tell the phone what networks to look for and use in what areas. For an entry level position with Verizon, you need to be atleast 18 and have a high school diploma. I imagine that's how it is with most of the carriers.
