--If that's the case, then maybe I'll back down on asking "the big question". I don't want anyone being punished for my inquiries about it. I'm just annoyed that every time something is to be released, they treat it like a matter of national security.

 

I've been reading the threads for a little while now and have been pretty interested in PTT. I work for a Verizon retailer in MA, so this is basically where I've been getting my info from...I know just as much as you guys. Like Delta said, we find out about new promotions and stuff literally the day before they come out. When the VX6000 came out, I got some promotional material with the VX6000 picture on it the week before, but had no clue what the hell it was until I got an e-mail the day before it launched telling me what it was.
Outside of this website, all I've heard about PTT was that there would be a training session for it sometime in August for retailers I'm guessing. Today I tried to call a Verizon direct store and Radio Shack to see if they would say anything. When I asked the lady at Verizon if she could tell me anything, she answered with an emphatic "UH UH." It sounded like she knew something, but obviously couldn't tell me. Then she told me her best guess was 4th quarter. The guy at Radio Shack told me he couldn't say anything about it. I begged him to gimme something...all he said was that Verizon has told them very little about it, but the little they know is confidential. No dice...oh well...

 

Just called another Verizon corporate store. This lady was a little bit nicer (which probably meant she knew less than the other people did). I just asked generally if she had any information on PTT. She said "It hasn't been released yet, so there's really not any information. But I've heard the end of the summer and I've also heard December."
Back to square one...

Wonder if the litigation about PTT trademarks and Nextel's use of demos is holding this up. I bet it is all ready, don't know of any kinks they could could be working out, I bet they are looking for resolution in the courts and then it will be released.

 

I know it may not mean anything coming from a new guy but here is my two cents..... I was told by my Account Rep the second week of this month that it will be released soon, however there is no launch date yet because of the Trademark stuff. I talked with my Rep again last week, and asked about PTT and my company’s need for that service. I informed my Rep that I needed the PTT by September 1 to be in compliant with a contract (which is true) still no launch date. My account Rep suggested that I go ahead with Nextel because they really didn’t know a launch date. I am sorry to say that I now have some Nextel Phones along with a bunch of Verizon Phones. So who knows, if my account rep knew a date I don't think that they would have suggested the Nextels. Just my 2 cents...

 

The vx6000 had so many damn release dates...
but actually stores here knew the final release date (july 8th) by the end of june.

For those that have seen the v60p with PTT feature, what antenna is it sporting? The locked in place one that snaps all the time or the one that projects a little and has some give?

 

It's a stubby. It's shouldn't move. Won't really know till its released though. All signs point to immobile stubby.

 

It's got the "fixed" antenna that doesn't pull out. I haven't heard of too many cases of the fixed antennas snapping off, though. The antenna should be similar to the one on the v60t that ATT has. I only know one person that broke it, but it was because he dropped a dumbell on it.

 

thanks for the info. Now all i have to do is increase my amount of prosac so i don't kill someone waiting for the release.

Does anyone know where phonescoop.com gets their info. According to the site, the planned availability for the v60p with verizon wireless is OCTOBER 2003. Do they know something we don't?

Hopefully someone knows something to the contrary.

 

David, this might actually be a significant, if disappointing, development. As early as this moring (Eastern Time), phonescoop said second half of 2003. Now there is a specific month. Bummer. But they could be wrong too.

 

Yess, BUTT, phonescoop also says that the a690 is coming out in July 2003.

I also just wanna say to Delta...ur pretty funny dood. Especially when you had that Nextel banner that was tagged. I used ta be like you. I was posting on here like a mad man. I would check the forums like a mad man. I had an unofficial count-down but that was back in Sept 02 when I thought it was coming out in Feb 03.

Dood, I wasted sooo much time waiting for this thing. I hardly even celebrated my birthday in May b/c I was told it was, "Definitely coming out in June." Then, when I thought it would be out in July, I had this guy doggin me in HoFo. He would post EVERY TIME after me; saying, "NO NO NO UH UHHH. It's coming out on 08/01. So if you think it's coming out before that, you're a fool." Now, of course, that kid looks like a herb.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to say wasup to everyone and especially Delta. Peace out.

P.S. I guess it's not comin out on Friday. Hopefully one of the 08/08 or 08/15 dates will hold.

 

Phonescoop.com originally did say the release date for the v60p was July 2003. I think they must've just changed it. Anyhow I wish it would all just hurry up and get released. I am so ready to get out of these No Service zones in areas I need to use my cell with Nextel.

it's time. time to drive to verizon HQ and get answers. real answers. i'm gassin' up the motorhome and camping out in their parking lot till we know. and i'm going to hold the "can you hear me now" guy as a hostage until we get a release date. we'll make him buy the beer.
