I'll say what I can....The VZW secrecy gestapo is very ....convincing. But here's what I CAN say... NO ONE outside of the WAY UP's knows exactly when it will launch. I was SUPPOSED to be June 30th. Now it is "Near future" I read many different versions of the rate plans on here. One of them IS close to being right. They are subject to change, but either way they are SWEET. IT WILL ABSOLUTELY DESTROY NEXTEL!!!! After what I saw, there can be no doubt. They are toast. VX 6000, however, will be here "very, VERY soon" The tech in these phones blows away Nextel. Apparently, they are smart enough not to tell us dates. If anyone says "I heard"...just disregard it unless they say they physically saw the phones come in off the UPS truck. There is a LOT more, but I like my job, so we'll have to wait and see. You won't be disapointed.
I understand that the delay for Verizon to release PTT was due to a pending lawsuit filed by NexTel. It seems to me that Nextel is doing everything in their power to prevent any kind of competition in the PTT market (the PTT name has been in use for years on walkie talkies!). I have several friends that have NexTels..and the phones/features are great....as long as you can find service (which seems very rare in most locations) I say more power to Verizon! Now what remains to be seen is that if NexTel loses revenue/customers/business...what will happen to their 10 year sponsorship agreement with NASCAR?
More power Verizon. IMO i hope that they wipe the floor with nextel cause thats all they have is PTT. Without it theve got nothing. They have one color phone and its as big as a small spaceship. That iden network reminds me of a cup attached to a string to another cup. Seriously and also their credit checks are outragous ! I have had customers complain they have had perfect credit with every company but them they dished out a 500 dollar deposit. Why's that ? I never understood that....And if they are so great then why would they be scared of verizon getting into the PTT market ? HUMM ? they are scared if you ask me. Market share is a big part of things and if you have it you dont want to lose it. That i understand but they are scared for a reason..because they will lose customers.
Ok so im new around her but from what i have heard, Verizon does not use the Iden networks that nextel has and their network was built for PTT was nextels was, so Verizons PTT has a considerable longer delay, i have heard think from 3-5 seconds, to 10-25 seconds. If you say it is gonna destroy Nextel has this delay been timed down?
Those are rumors spread by the Nextel lovers that are jealous VZW is launching PTT. The latency on VZW's PTT is equal to Nextel's.
Ive heard from someone who claims to be very "high up" and has seen it work(so i prolly shouldnt believe this) thats acording to him, you have to enter someones PTT number threw a website and thats the only way to do it, so say you away from home and you get there number you have to wait till you are at a computer to enter it in? I hope thats not true.
Decembruary indeed. And no offense RadioCop, but I don't want to work at RadioHack with you. As for the website thing, I don't think that's true, considering that's the first I've heard of it, but then again, I've been away from work for a while, so it could be.
Really? Interesting that's the first I have heard of that. Verizon PTT is equal to Nextel's........... LOL For so much hype;, It's gonna be, It will be, It will destroy Nextel... blah blah blah, yet we still haven't seen anything. People are so eager to bash Nextel and hype a service that hasn't been out yet and continues to be delayed. Too funny.
JAVA Inside...Idiot outside. What an appropriate Icon! I have seen and used this stuff....there is no noticable delay. There ARE a TON of improvements over Nextels technology. Maybe before you "blah, blah, blah" and "LOL" you should think that MAYBE some of the people posting know what they are talking about. Heck, I'll bet he'll be first in line at launch. My comeback having been said, lets keep it objective and not be bashing everything. Seems to me he's probably a Nextel Rep. Taco Bell is hiring I hear.......
It's not true. A few weeks ago, gonycom.com posted what appeared to be an "official" online advertisement for Verizon PTT. It described Verizon PTT in detail in the form of a commercial. It appeared to be geared to the business community. Anyway, it looked genuine. It mysteriously disappeared after a few days. This "advertisement," for lack of a better word, described a web-based application whereby users could set up private groups for broadcast to a number of people at once. Along the lines of AOL Instant Messanger "Buddy Group" I suppose. A web-site is not necessary for ordinary PTT usage, only for group broadcasts. In fact, there are no "PTT numbers" as you call them. The users regular-wireless phone number is all you need. By the way, according to Howard's website, if you enter a Californian zip code at Verizonwireless.com, you can see the Samsung i700 and its description says PTT Enabled. Maybe we don't have to wait unitl Christmas.
I went the the Verizon site and put in the zip 90210 and nothing came up the samsung, By the way, im starting to see more and more news sites starting to say verizons phones have no delay instead of how it used to say a 3-10 second delay. CNET is one of them.
My bad. I should have been clearer. It appears only on NORTHERN Califorinia zip codes. I used 95062. Saw it with my own two eyes. It also seems to corroborate some members assertions that the launch for PTT would be in the San Fran area first. But who knows.
That's really weird. When you put in a northern California zip code (like 94103 for San Francisco), it shows the i700 as PPT capable. But, when you put in a southern California zip code (like 90210 -- since we are all familiar with that one) or a New York zip code, it says nothing about PPT. I agree with Jrapp ... perhaps the assertions about PPT launching in San Francisco/Bay area first are true?!
I would hope that it would launch in all 1xrrrt markets at the same time? Well, I still call it a Christmas ad-ploy and this whole Nextel thing, I don't think until number portability comes "on", well, I don't think that many customers will *hop* over..? --J.T
Someone tell me, is it worth it to give up a LG vx4400 for a v60p with PTT? Seems kinda like a big drop in phone quality, unless theres alot i dont know about the v60 series
Well 95670 is sacramento, and it shows it as PTT. I don't think it will only launch in SF first, it is supposed to be a nationwide launch.
That story about Verizon destroying Nextel must be true. If not, Nextel wouldn't be crying like a baby. They know their days are numbered!
I find it funny that Nextel users are so quick to dismiss any claims that Verizon's PTT latency is equal to that of Nextel's. They are the doubting thomas's of the wireless world. I don't see why people that have used the service would claim as such if it wasn't true, as it would look really bad for Verizon if they claimed equal latency and it turned out to be untrue...not to mention make for a TON of unhappy customers. If Verizon people are lying to make their service more appealing, well it will come back to bite them. Still, I think bobolito is right on...Nextel stole some Verizon phone's and were probably pretty scared by what they discovered, hence their recent actions.
My sister went out and just bought a nextel cause her boyfriend has one, the funny thing is that she left our family plan, now the rest of the 3 of us are gonna get the new Ptt phones when is comes out, sucks for her.
Yes, I think Nextel is scared, now that you guys mention it, of course, otherwise, they wouldn't have started this suit so quickly. Also, I do love it how Nextel lovers are so quick to dismiss Verizon's PTT service....it's like they are all the "gang" on the block, and when the new kid (Verizon), comes in with his new toy, they all go "aww man, he's just a kid" type thing --J.T
^^^^^^^^^Right on buddy, Evreyone that has a nextel knows that when it comes to actually making a real cellular call, Nextels service blows the big one, and if Nextel didnt have their Direct Connect, they would be gone. So with Verizons Serivce and the ability to use p-t-t WITH THE LATENCY EQUAL TO NEXTELS DIRECT CONNECT.(Got the Nextel users?) Nextel doesnt stand a chance.
Nextel..Nextel....ha! Is this not a dream come true? Hurry up PTT! I have been wanting to put those snobby Nextel pushers in their place for a long time. Having seen the entire "book" on PTT, I can say that when the truth comes out and we don't have to be like the National Security Agency of Wireless anymore....Nextel agents will be jumping off cliffs, running the car in the garage with the door down, popping handfuls of sleeping pills, and nursing on shotgun barrels. God help the stockholders. It is THAT good. I wish I could tell you the rates, but I had a chip implanted in my brain that will kill me if I talk. Everyone will be switching though...I guarentee you that! The ONLY thing Nextel has left is their Free incoming calls. But even that is not enough to save them. The day VZW releases PTT, I am literally throwing a party. It will be as big a deal as peace in the Middle East. The end of World Hunger. The early release of The Matrix Revolutions, Lord of the Rings 3 and Star Wars Episode III on the same day. Ok...I'm getting a little carried away......Breathe........Just .....Breathe.....
Actually, I think the only thing that can save Nextel is customer loyalty. Because we pretty much all agree that DC is what has kept them afloat so long, it may be what continues to. While individual companies often communicate with one another via DC, it is also used between companies, such as between vendors and their clients or between partner contractors at a construction site. If one were to switch and the other did not, both would lose the ability to DC with each other, eating up a lot more "regular" minutes. Since DC is sort of Nextel's version of mobile to mobile minutes, it may not necessarily benefit some companies to switch. Now if they all get together and decide to dump Nextel (a distinct possibility), then assuming Verizon's service is as good as we hear it is, Nextel is probably dead.
