Verizon Finally Enables File Transfer, Bluetooth on Motorola RAZR V3c April 20, 2006

RAZR users stuck with Verizon will be happy to know that the greedy com-giant has finally broken down and decided to enable file transfers on its Motorola RAZR V3c cellphones. The new uncrippled functionality requires a firmware update that has to be done at a Verizon dealer, though. After that, you can hook your phone up to the computer and use Motorola Phone Tools, letting you transfer multimedia back and forth. Plus, the UI is said to run much faster. Glory be.

Better yet, the RAZR V3c can now transfer files to and from your PC with Bluetooth, because OBEX (OBject EXchange), that service that makes Bluetooth work with the RAZR V3c (which Verizon absent-mindedly forgot to turn off when it first released the V3c), will now work again. Hee-haa

Its about time. Do you think they were tired of loosing customers to the GSM carriers for making their bluetooth nothing more than a cordless headset?

That should teach them a lesson. I am sure they are preparing some fake press release touting how Verizon Wireless "listens" to what customers want and how they are so committed to their customers. Oh my! How nice they are!

Folks, I hate to reign in the excitement here, but Gizmodo is just siting a blog entry, which itself points to a HoFo post with no independent verification from a known VZW familiar (or from VZW itself). Until I see some kind of verification, I'm not going to get crazy about this.

I'm not too excited. Cingular is still the only carrier that works at my folk's house, and the rest of my family is still on Cingular so I'm not jumping ship.

I honestly doubt that they lost that many customers to other carriers becaus of it. I'm sure they lost a few customers as well as some potential customers, but not that many I don't think. Not everyone who buys one of the newer cellphones that has bt actually wants to make full use of it.

The Bluetooth Adapter that plugs into a PC's USB port is
    about $40 at Circiut City.
But if you look at How Much they selling
Phone wallpapers, video or music at VCAST.
This amount can be recovered easily.

Sorry to burst all these bubbles, but the non-Verizon postings on the Net are not completely true. THe latest firmware updates do NOT enable OBEX. They simply update the firmware with bug fixes. If you have the .02 firmware on your Razr which disabled OBEX (and there's a hack to enable it) and you upgrade to the .04 firmware, OBEX is left intact. However, if you have the .03 (which is out there everywhere and in the Verizon stores) and it's upgraded to .04, NO OBEX.

See the postings on Howardforums for all the information. This misinformation has been posted by digg.com and other places. Verizon techs will tell you they have no information about this profile. But forums have posts by those who have gone through the process and the news is that Verizon continues to jerk around their customers. I'm out of contract on four phones in December and I'm leaving them. I cannot wait!
