I'm a Cingular customer whose 2-year contract is almost up... I'm on day 3 of my 15 day trial with VZW using the new vx6000 phone and I really like it. I've been scouring this board since yesterday and think others may find this summary of useful tips & tricks helpful. Please add your own!

    -------------
discovery of the day: you can send more than one .mid via ###@vzwpix.com in the same email! Duh. Why have I been sending one at a time?
    >> i occasionally get "Error save sound" message when trying to save a mid file. anyone know why??
    --------------
    FREE WAP...
press menu, then 0, then 000000 as the service code
    option 9 for wap setting
set link one ip one 207.232.099.109
    link one port one 9201
    http://wap.oa.yahoo.com
    ---------------
    free mid files
    http://nemonet.lcirc.net/ringtones/
    http://www.brewbackups.com
    --------------
    edit mid files
    http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/motot720/edit.htm
    ------
VX6000 wallpaper size is 120 wide by 124 pixels high. or is 120x160 better? In my testing 120x160 results in the photo being cropped at top and bottom. There are 4 white px at top & 3 px at bottom. 120x124, there are still 4 white at top and 3 at bottom, but the full image is shown, not cropped.
    ----------
    >>to do list... need to find app to convert mp3 to pmd. qcp files renamed as mid will play, but when set as ringer only plays in earpiece not speaker. read somewhere that pmd's play through the speaker.
    -----------
    WAPTUNNEL: IP 207.232.99.109 PORT 9200 or 9201
    3AM Labs Gateway: IP 064.023.032.065 PORT 9203
    -----------
FINALLY, SOME RINGTONES THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE EMBARASSED WHEN THEY GO OFF AT WORK... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gowirelessnj/
go to... Files > VX 4400 and VX 6000 Regular Ringtones > Regular Rings

All this means is that airtime charges will apply - that browsing the web during peak times will use peak minutes from your plan. Even the free WAP still uses airtime which is why it's always best to browse during off-peak minutes.

oh i see!, that is awesome!

so how does this work, i've alreadymade the changes, do i jus click on the web icon from the phone, click yes to apply charges, and continue from there, or is there anything else that needs to be done.

what is the difference of making these changes and doing this OR not making the changes and clicking on yes to apply charge, would that actually go through, or would i need to call verizon t add web access on my phone>

    Thanks!

one more thing, i had cingular previously, they made me go to a site to manage my internet browsing on the web thru my phone, is it the same here, because u did post the site http://wap.oa.yahoo.com for some reason?

I use http://wap.espn.com/ as my homepage. I love being able to get scores or sports news when I am out and about. Here is a link to some other sites that you can use as your homepage.

With all this free wap, is there any way to get a weather MAP (not just a text report)? That would be cool!

What URL are you going to? I'm guessing it is probably site that is not designed for WAP -- that is, it is written in HTML instead of WML as expected by the phone's browser. See if the site you're trying to access has a WAP version. If not go to wap.google.com and use their "Go To URL" feature because it will attempt to translate the HTML into WML.

Please excuse my ignorance to any other previous posts, but as you may already experienced the impatience in learning all the nice features of the phone.

I was able to locate the MID page you posted.

Can you give the laymans term as to how to upload the ringtones?

I've already downloaded them to my PC, then what?

Thank you kind person! And thanks for all your kind advice.

it is actually quite simple. once you have the .mid files just email them to your phone... the email address is PHONENUMBER@vzwpix.com (PHONENUMBER=your 10 digit cell phone number)

You will recieve the ringtone as a "picture" attachment in your Pix Inbox (menu, 1, 4). Use the right soft key to save the sound. The sound will then be in your Media > Music folder (menu, 7, 2). To select it as your ringtone from the Music folder, use the left soft ket to "Set As" one of the 4 incoming call types... Contact, Caller ID, No Caller ID, Restrict.
