Im thinking about purchasing the Vx6000 next week and was wondering how the reception is around Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs? Im using a v60i now and have great recept pretty much every where i travel but before i switch id like to see if anyones noticed a decrease with the LG compared......
tino, contact me about a deal that several of us are working on vx6000. send me your # private. we will purchase this thurs or friday. David
Well, I found the perfect thread to post my observations. I'm a student at Emory University, and I noticed something about the reception on the VX6000. I was doing laundry in the basement of my dorm, and commented to some of my friends who were griping about their reception with Cingular GSM (it was zero, BTW) that I had four bars....in the basement of my dorm. (Granted, there is a tower not too far away from the campus.) A girl turned around and showed me her VX6000. She had one bar. We walked around the laundry room a bit and each maintained the same level of reception. So I had three more bars of reception than her. You can't really compare reception outside of the dorm because everyone has full reception due to the proximity of the tower. So, bottom line, I had four bars on my v60i, and she had one on her VX6000.
future, take that GSM phone and head deep into the suburbs and enjoy zero service. Or head to N. Ga mountains. Or go to the Lake Allatoona or Lake Jackson. I have been on Cingular, ATT, T-Mob, Sprint, and Verizon. I burn 3000 peak a month all over the S. East. Nothing compares to Verizon right now. That might change in a year or two with Cingular. But I doubt that. If you don't have to leave Atlanta, any carrier is suitable. I'm more concerned about which phone provides the best reception in Ga. for verizon. I am about to attempt to go analog-less (don't try his at home) with the VX6000. It would appear that tino is looking for the same comparison. David
When you had 4 bars in a laundry room was your V60i antenna extended? How does the vx6000 perform around Briarcliff rd/N. Decatur/Highlands area? Emory area has always been weak for alot of Carriers with Few exceptions.
Yes, my antenna was extended. The VX6000 has a stub, if I remember correctly. The main point of my last post was just to say that I had four bars on my v60i and she had one. Performance Briarcliff Rd. and N. Decatur is superb. Full signal everywhere I've been. The coverage here at Emory must have really picked up recently. Honestly, Cingular GSM and AT&T GSM enjoy pretty much a full signal (only when outside). It's the craziest thing. I was holding my friend's Nokia 3595 on AT&T, and his signal went from full outside to zero inside. That's when I love to have 800 mHz CDMA. I love Verizon. I think the voice quality is just as good if not better than that of GSM. Also on Emory's campus, Cingular TDMA is even stronger than GSM. All of my experiences are actually ON the campus. I don't have any knowledge of the coverage in the general Emory area such as around the hospitals, etc. David, please tell me how the VX6000 performs as far as signal strength goes. I'm curious to see how you like it.
for the vx6000, one bar is more then sufficent to talk with... just as long as the bar dosent fade in and out.
My point on the question of the antenna raised or lowered on your V60 was raised it always gives me an extra bar or 2 so i was wondering if you had 4 with the anntenna down, raised up gives seems to give it an edge over some other models. Actually cingular TDMA and AT&T TDMA are still stronger in building than Cingular GSM and AT&T GSM, still along way to go in my opinion, mybe an addition of 800 freq will boost inbuilding penetration later..just my experiences...I decided to not go with the VX6000 and stay with my V60i its performed excellent thus far, i will probably wait for the Kyocera slyder or a a moto cdma version of the v600 (i know the v600 will be gsm but there will probably be some sort of version of it)
