Voicestream (T-Mobile) has powered up new cell sites in Chicago. Many users are reporting having full signal all around the area. Here are a couple of quotes from those users: "I noticed that my phone today had five bars of signal strength, it usually has around 3. So i pulled out my 5190 with field test mode and I noticed that I was getting a signal of around -50db from a tower I usually get around -70db from. A coworker of mine who lives downtown, I live in linclon park, had called several times to complain that his phone was displaying SOS only because the ATT signal was so much stronger. VS called him today to ask if he still had the same problem, he said no it works fine now. They told him the problem should be gone all over chicago because they have turned up the power on their cell sites. This is good news, if they keep the cell sited turned up." "I was in Chicago yesterday and roamed on VoiceStream all day at a full 4 bars on my Nokia 8390. Great service! Roger"
Chris, Just curious, how does a carrier turn up the power on their cell sites? When they are first installed they should be at full power already.
Power of Cell Towers can be adjusted either higher or lower, so they don't interfere w/ the next tower.
