Yep, standardization is a good thing. I didn't get many alerts when i was with them, so I was never bothered byt hem going into the SMS folder. It IS all personal preference...

I'm glad that T-Mobile realized that this was an issue that needed to be fixed. Hopefully the wait for the MWI voice mail notification won't be too long.

    Update

A rough list of major cities was posted on Howard Forums yesterday regarding the cutover to the new Comverse VM system. It appears that subs in the SF Bay Area got a message informing them of the change to a new system this week.

This is an important service notification from T-Mobile. T-Mobile will be upgrading your VoiceMail system this week. The first time you access your new VoiceMail, you will be prompted to set up your name, greeting and new password.

Rest assured, you will not lose any of your saved messages. Simply dial "00" from your Voicemail box to listen to messages on the old system. Your messages will be available for 30 days following the VoiceMail system upgrade.

This VoiceMail upgrade is part of the many ways you GET MORE with T-Mobile. Thank you

    Hawaii - 12/2004
    California - Feb & March 2005
    Portland & Seattle - April 2005
Salt Lake, Denver, Phoenix - May 2005
    NY - May 2005
    Philly - June 2005
    Boston - July 2005
    Atlanta - July 2005
    Chicago, Nashville - September 2005
Ohio, Indy, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh - November 2005
Florida, St Louis, KC, Houston Q4 2005/Q1 2006

While Hawaii still does not have the MWI active, it seems that an internal post to employees at TMO regarding the cutover reads something like this:

"Customers will no longer receive a text message when they have a Voice Mail message waiting. Instead, an icon will appear on the phone's screen."

Another "wait & see" scenario in the next few days.

    Re: Update

Great, the two places I'll be living in the next year won't get the upgrade until possibly 2006? Oh well, I guess I shouldn't complain. T-Mobile could've decided not to do the upgrade at all.

Nice avatar, by the way, AZ. Did you make that yourself?

Yeah, it's really cool. Maybe I should ask him to make me one... although I really like my Chuck Taylor. Perhaps I should think on this for a while.

    Meanwhile...back on topic...

Are the folks in California who are on the new voicemail system also continuing to receive text messages as in Hawaii?

They don't go live until tomorrow (2/8). If in fact everything goes as planned.

Apparently from other stuff I have read, there is more than 1 VM system to handle all customers in each market so SMS messages might continue to trickle through for a bit. Hopefully this is why Hawaii is still getting both.

The Northern California market went live with the new voicemail last night and these customers are now receiving the MWI. There are no reports of anyone receiving both SMS and MWI. Strictly all MWI so far!

    Very good news!

Here is an updated list courtesy of shamo @ Howard Forums. Unfortunately it is a cryptic listing. Some have suggested that this list reflects the actual physical location of the voicemail boxes themselves rather than the markets they serve.

    Liverpool? The one near Syracuse?

    Wayne, Indiana or Wayne, PA?

Concord, CA was the designation for the Northern California market rather than a major city like San Fran?

It just all seems pretty weird

This jives with the announcement I got this morning when checking my voice mail, saying T-Mobile would be upgrading to the MWI voice mail instead of annoying text message VM announcements. :D Me likes!! :browani:

Just got to say how nice it is to receive voicemails the right way instead of a text message notification. Love that little envelope icon at the top of the display!! :highclap:

Thank You T-Mobile for listening to your customers!! You've made this one very happy! :D

On the current voicemail system, when someone calls and gets the voicemail, it uses a generic system default greeting telling the caller that they "have reached mailbox number xxxxxxxxxx" and to leave a message.

Is the same generic greeting with phone number also available on the new platform? I prefer to use this default greeting with phone number.

The only difference I encountered was the addition of a PIN number (an optional choice, I might add) to access VM. As far as I know nothing else has changed. You should be able to set up your VM preferences to your liking.

The Portland and Salt Lake City markets are set to receive their pre-conversion voicemail drops today (4/21) informing them of the VM upgrade to take place beginning late Tuesday evening (4/26) and into the early morning hours of Wednesday (4/27).

SLC was originally scheduled for the week after Portland (5/03) but it appears they coupled it with the rollout of POR as well.

An employee in a local T-Mobile company store informed me today that the voicemail upgrade for Boston is still on schedule for the week of July 5.
