It would be nice to get some type of official confirmation from T-Mobile as to the status of voicemail message notifications.

The message at the link quoted above at HoFo, was posted by a new user who has (at this time) posted only nine (9) messages on HoFo.

Has anyone called T-Mobile directly to confirm this change?

I could not get through to Customer Service last night, I guess with all of the holiday shopping, everyone is buying T-Mobile and having phones activated.

I did however, receive an e-mail from T-Mobile Customer Service earlier this morning, and it was stated that they are indeed changing the voicemail platform and would have more information about it when the launch date gets closer.

So that message over at HoFo has credibility to it. :)

Last time the VM system was changed (when T-M integrated Omnpoint, Aerial and Voicestream platforms to the Omnipoint platform) everyone got a letter in the mail talking about the new changes, a handy little card with the options for the VM, and a couple of bonus minutes to call in and set up our new VM messges.

That is good for them to do. Hopefully we will see something in the near future regarding this!

I'd be happy to. In my original e-mail, I explained that I am a T-Mobile To Go customer. :)

An update on this...the Dec. 8 rollout of Comverse in the Hawaii market was postponed with no new date announced.

Dec. 8 was also the rollout of Caller Tunes which had been postponed once already.

Anyone have any update on this? Maybe they were trying to do too much at once?

It's been reported that some who have the new voicemail system already, are still receiving text messages informing them of a voicemail message. :(

I just left myself a voicemail on my T-Mobile V600 and still get the text notification. Still not working here in Phoenix...

Hawaii was the only market that was reported to be rolled out. Since they are changing platforms, there has been some (reasonable) speculation that the change to MWI won't occur until it can be implemented on a national basis to help limit confusion. T-Mobile would have to send everyone a bill insert or letter before transitioning anyway.

I had read that before. I will wait to see if I get anything in the upcoming months to this effect. In the meantime, I will be monitor how I get notifications and hopefully I will be able to get one before it is instated. Not likely though!

Has T-Mobile outlined dates for MWI rollout? Waiting patiently here in California... :)

Same here...I'm fine with waiting till next year before the MWI comes into effect. Knowing an ETA on specific markets for the Comverse switchover would be nice though.

Are there any updates on this?

As of the other day, I still received a text message upon receiving a voice mail message (this is on T-Mobile To Go).

    No updates.

Hawaii has been the only market to cutover to the new VM but is still receiving the SMS text message. A post over on Howard Forums states that around mid January the MWI was supposed to go live. It hasn't as of yet.

As initially reported, Hawaii was the charter market for this conversion and other markets will not begin converting until February.

Now that I am with Cingular, I don't have to deal with this anymore! I hope they do make the change soon though, I know some people have thought of it as a headache...

More than a headache. Twice now, the SMS comes in, and I deleted it, remembering afterwards to check the voicemail.

Since all of the mobile carriers seem to be using different voicemail platforms, why can't what T-Mobile uses currently, also use MWI?

Your profile says you have Verizon, do you have T-Mobile as well?

Yes, I have a T-Mobile To Go prepay phone (have had this since July 2004), and am trying to get the best plan for the money, so I've been trying out all of the prepaid services.

OTOH, I have Cingular service (postpay), however even after 10 (ten) years with them, they will not activate a 3rd line on my account at the same employee group rate that the current 2 lines have (one is GSM, the other TDMA). One side of Cingular said "Yes, we can do it, the monthly rate is the same but you would not have the 500 minutes free nights/weekends.", the other side of Cingular said they cannot. So, I told them, "Fine, you guys hash it out, I'm going elsewhere." And I bought the T-Mobile phone. If that is the way Cingular is going to treat a long-term customer, I'd rather vote with my feet. In addition, they ran a credit check on me for that 3rd line, the amount of the deposit required came back as ZERO. Nuff said.

I've also tried TracFone (on Cingular locally).

In looking all of the monthly plans, T-Mobile seems to have the best ones, cost-wise. I'm choosing between the Basic plan ($19.99/month, 60 minutes per month, 500 minutes weekends, no WAP) and the T-Mobile Internet Plan ($29.99/month, unlimited web browsing (WAP) and all calls are 20 cents per minute).

I would have considered Verizon postpay except their least expensive postpay plan available here, is $35.99.

    Decisions...decisions...

OK you still got me, you say you would have tried out Verizon, but the plans are too expensive, yet your profile says you have a Verizon 3589i??? Is that a work phone?

Pay As You Go (also prepay). It's actually less expensive on a monthly basis (dollar amount) than the $35.99 plan referenced above, but would prefer the convenience of a monthly plan. If VZW had a sub-$20 monthly plan, I would consider it. I also heard that I would be entitled to an employment-related discount with VZW, but the % of the discount would not lower the bill all that much.

I've since learned that no phones come with the T-Mobile Internet Plan, you need something other than a mobile phone for that.

So, I'll likely be looking at the Basic plan instead, with unlimited T-Zones.

Although I support and would prefer the tape icon o o as opposed to the current text message notification on voicemail, I can live with the current method.

I had pretty much the same thoughts. I didn't think it was that big of a deal, and it never really confused me or caused me problems like some people are saying...

When I first joined TMO in 2002 I as well did not think it was a big deal until the use of SMS messaging started to really kick in. I now get SMS messages for sports scores, work related alerts and I do a lot of IM'ing and SMS'ing between phones. I want to be able to take one glance at my handset and be able to differentiate.

It is all personal preference of course. I think TMO has finally realized they need to keep this consistent and implement a method which is somewhat of an industry standard among carriers in the United States.
