Since I get so tired of phones so quickly the time has come that I think I would like to try AT&T. Something that I want with this is data though. I see all these threads where AT&T have problems with their data or it goes out. Well I guess if it was not bad I could deal with it. Anyways I really want some down to earth honest opinions if this would be a good choice. One thing I do not want is the TILT just not interested. I have been in the cell phone world for a long time and want to give the other big player a try. Thanks
Honest opinion. I've been a customer since 02 Happily Been an employee since 07 Great company great people great products Where are u located That would be the only factor that I may hesitate to tell u to get ATT. I wouldn't worry about data outage. That thread last week was the first I've heard of an outage. In 5 years I've personally never seen one. Also I recommend the blackberry curve. They are great. But the Tilt will be nice if ur in a 3G area. Either way I think ull be happy.
BB Curve FTW! Direct Push email is GREAT Also you can use OperaMini as a web browser and that works great too.
Now this I would be interested in for sure I know this is a good phone. For me that is. You know blackberry is great I would really consider this as well. The only thing is that I do like to have the quickest speed HSDPA and the ability to send data while I am on the phone.
Yeah I know that but with AFAIK with EDGE which blackberries run off of they cant do this. Only UMTS and HSDPA. Sorry I just dont know alot aout AT&T/
yea thats not true. it is definetly Possible, i suppose it depends on how you wanto use data. when i think of data, i think of texting or email usually, which is very possible. What is not possible is actual web browsing. so i guess, its a Yes and No answer both.
OH ok thanks for clearing that up for me. You know one thing about ATT here is I always hear people tell me when they call they get the all circuits are busy prompt. I wonder if this has to do with the switch there is only one for Utah for them. Where as Verizon has three as I have never heard this on them.
hmm im not sure, ive never had that issue. but i dont live in a 3G area yet. the only company ive seen that issue with is Nextel, with Verizon/Sprint/Alltel, ive noticed that the calls just dont go through on the recievers end and they get a voicemail.
not texting..or either my phone is a freak of nature. i consider that data. but with browsing yes your correct, that is not possible.
Text is different. I was referring to internet usage. Say you had your laptop teathered to your phone... If you have a 3G data connection you can take calls and surf. If you have a GSM connection your laptop's data will be put on hold if a call comes in. -Jay
i'm in the same boat as you, Ryan. Verizon and USCC really do leave something to be desired in terms of coverage at my home. With either, there's no chance for voice to work and i'm lucky to be able to text. i tried at&t once about 2 years ago when they came to my town and they were okay, but, we've bought a new home since then and i'm curious to see how they perform here.
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: Nokia6555b/2.0 (03.31) Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.1.17.0) Oh i guess att is ok.
Ryan I took the V9 for a test ride and am considering it for my upgrade, the 3G was fast and the 2 inch screen was bright and crisp. Good in your choice.
EDGE is not to bad as long as the network is built well and you only use it for email and general web browseing. Any thing real bandwidth demanding its real slow like streaming audio or video. I can do 90 percent what I need to do with EDGE no problem. Blackberry does have 1 UMTS handset but I dont think AT&T offered it and im not sure if it has 850 or not.
AT&T Coverage Viewer this is a great resource for anyone that is wondering if ATT works good in their area, or somewhere they need it to. unlike most companys, they will actually give you a general idea of how well it works in your area and if 3G is present or not. If you are in or around a major city, chances are, 3G is there.
I personally don't believe at&t would be a good choice for you. In fact I am rather surprised that you even want to try it. When I went to Utah last Spring, Andy had convinced me before I left, that I would get better coverage with my Verizon phone than with my at&t. He was absolutely right, I had enough at&t coverage to spend 2 weeks as a tourist but that would definitely not be my provider of choice if I lived there. Sorry but all I see is an at&t rant on lack of coverage, coming out of this. Just my honest opinion.
i mean yea coverage could be better in places. but honestly when he gave me his zip, his area wasnt that bad. espically if he spends most of his time in Salt Lake City, its a 3G area and coverage is gonna be top notch. But it did look as though if you leave the city/Highway areas that it is not very good in Utah's countryside. of course his exact address would tell him if hes 3G or not. just have to search it in the coverage viewer and check the 3G box.
You can have my spot with the 3,000 lb gorillia. After 8 yrs w/Cingular (the first 6 were great) I finally got fed-up with the merged-att & went over to T-Mobile. T-Mobile is a refreshing alternative to the "you need us more than we need you" attitude of the big playas . . . . Best. TB imo
I would have to agree with you on this Charlyee. I could see it working if this was a second line used for testing and/or backup. I just switched my CellOne line over to AT&T this past week. I loved the 3G in SoCal, but had no 3G at the Airport in Vegas yesterday. But so far I really like my Blackjack II.
Thanks budney. When did you get the Blackjack II? I am glad you like it. I really liked my Blackjack and the "II" version has some major improvements. I played with it some couple weeks back. The black version seemed to be real slippery and prone to smudges, which one did you get? I am looking forward to a full review on it from you, you know that right? Have fun with your new toy.
I got it last week while in SoCal on vacation. It was easier to do the transfer out there as the stores I can get to out where I live didn't have any phones in stock. It is slippery and smudge prone, but it is so solid and well thought out compared to the original. I will have do a review in the future.
