Verizon’s New Share Everything Plans Go Live on June 28

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless today announced Share Everything Plans that will forever change the way customers purchase wireless services. Share Everything Plans include unlimited voice minutes, unlimited text, video and picture messaging and a single data allowance for up to 10 Verizon Wireless devices. In addition, the Mobile Hotspot service on all the devices is included in the Share Everything Plans at no additional charge. The groundbreaking Share Everything Plans debut on June 28 and will be available to new, as well as existing, customers who may wish to move to the new plans.

“Customers asked, and today Verizon Wireless delivered an industry first,” said Tami Erwin, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. “Share Everything Plans are the new standard for wireless service. They are simple; customers no longer have to think about their voice and message plans, because both are unlimited. Share Everything Plans are convenient; customers purchase one data plan and they share it with up to 10 mobile devices. And, they are worry-free; customers can connect their 3G or 4G devices wherever and whenever they want on America’s most reliable network.”

How Share Everything Plans Work

To get started on a Share Everything Plan, customers first select the devices they want on their accounts. The next step is to choose a plan that includes unlimited minutes, unlimited messages and a shared data allowance that begins at 1 GB for $50. Customers adding a tablet on their Share Everything Plans can do so for an additional $10, with no long-term contract requirement. The following matrix shows pricing for an account with several different devices, such as a smartphone, a tablet and a basic phone, billed to the same individual.

There are separate plans for accounts with only basic phones, or data only devices such as USB modems or Jetpack Mobile Hotspots at www.verizonwireless.com/ShareEverything.

“When developing these plans, we first asked customers what they wanted in a wireless service plan. We also looked at the technology and how customers were using it to manage their lives. And last, we took into consideration the evolution of the technology and how customers would use wireless in the future,” Erwin added. “Share Everything Plans are the outcome of that research. They cover every device Verizon Wireless offers, from basic phones to smartphones, from tablets to Jetpacks and more. Share Everything Plans represent a tremendous shift in how customers think about wireless service.”

Switch to a Share Everything Plan

Customers are free to keep their existing plans, but there is no fee or contract extension to move to the new Share Everything Plans. To help customers determine the best Share Everything Plan option, Verizon Wireless has created an easy to use online tool at www.verizonwireless.com/ShareEverything.

The Basics: Verizon’s New Share Everything Plans

After Verizon dropped their new Share Everything plans on us this morning (aka shared data tiers), it took a minute for us to fully process exactly what we have going here, but we think we have a good grasp on it now. To help everyone understand this new focus on data rather than minutes and texts that goes live June 28, we thought we would lay this out for you in the simplest of ways. Ready?

Step 1: Smartphones

Do you have more than 1 line on an account that includes a smartphone? Proceed to “Step 2″ and the Share Everything plans. If you have an individual smartphone account with 1 line, there are standalone data packages for you starting at $30 for 2GB of data. If you only have feature (basic) phones on your account, you get a whole new set of plans that you can find at the very bottom of the post.

Step 2: Number of Devices

How many devices do you have? Each one comes with its own “Monthly Line Access” fee. Prices below:

Smartphones: $40 per device

Feature phones: $30 per device

Jetpack / Netbook / Notebook / USB: $20 per device

Tablets: $10 per device

Step 3: Data Package Selection

Choose a data package for your entire family/account or what Verizon refers to as “Monthly Account Access”:

1GB for $50

2GB for $60

4GB for $70

6GB for $80

8GB for $90

10GB for $100

Step 4: More Data

Not enough data? If 10GB is not enough, you can add on an additional 2GB for $10. If you go over your monthly allowance, you pay $15 per 1GB of data.

Step 5: Mobile Hotspot

Want to add mobile hotspot on? It’s already on there. Mobile hotspot is now included with all capable devices at no extra charge. Just remember that using a hotspot on any of them will pull from the data package you selected in “Step 3.”

Step 6: Minutes and Texting

You do not have to select a minute or text package as they are all unlimited on these new share everything plans, and that includes picture and video messages. From what we can tell, this isn’t just mobile-to-mobile either. You can call anyone across this great nation for free on any phone.

Step 7: Add It Up

To figure out what your bill will look like, add up your number of devices along with their per device price from step 1, then add on a data package and you are done. That is now your monthly bill, minus taxes and fees.

Here is an example:

You have 6 devices in your family – 3 smartphones, 1 feature phone, 1 Jetpack, and 1 tablet. You will pay $40 for each smartphone ($120), plus $30 for the 1 feature phone, $20 for the Jetpack, and $10 for the tablet. The total monthly line access for your devices comes to $180. Since Verizon seems to think that the average user users 1-2GB of data per month, you would probably choose no less than the 8GB plan for $90. Add that to the $180 total for your devices and your bill will roughly be $270 per month, which includes unlimited talk and text.

Reminder: You Do NOT Have to Switch to Verizon’s New Share Everything Data Plans

We see in the comments that some users are freaking out a bit and are wondering if they will be forced onto one of Verizon’s new Share Everything plans. The answer is no. Let me say that one more time, so that hopefully, it can be the last. You do not have to switch to Verizon’s Share Everything plans. With that said, if you want to keep your unlimited data plan and current minute structure, there are some things you need to know.

To Keep Unlimited Data

In order to stay locked into unlimited data after June 28 (the day Share Everything plans go live), you will have to purchase phones at full retail price, which could mean paying anywhere from $449 to $649 for a new smartphone. If you choose to buy a phone at the discount or subsidized rate ($199 or so) after June 28, you will be forced onto one of these new tiered plans (either individual or Share Everything).

Your Last Subsidized Upgrade

If you have an upgrade available and paying full price for phones doesn’t sound like a party, then you have 2 weeks to use that upgrade. If you buy a discounted phone today, you can keep your grandfathered unlimited plan. For example, the Galaxy SIII is up for pre-order – you can pre-order and keep your current plan. Verizon confirmed it to us, but we also can confirm after going through the whole process.

Choosing Subsidy Over Unlimited

If you come to the end of a contract after June 28 and choose to upgrade at a discounted price, you will have to leave your unlimited data plan. At that time, you have a couple of choices for plans through Verizon. There will apparently be individual plans that start at $30 for 2GB of data and then of course, these new Share Everything plans. In some cases, it may be cheaper for you to purchase individual accounts than go with a Share Everything. For example, if Verizon is offering a double data promo for individual accounts ($30 for 4GB of data). If that time comes though, you will want to pull out the calculator and do the math to find your best option.

Mike, if you get a discounted upgrade or change to these boneheaded plans, you will have to pick from one of the two options (shared capped or stand alone capped at 2GB)...

DAMN I have to hurry and split my family plan since one of the lines is out of contract. I want to kill the lower use line. But Damn! I don't want anything to interfere with my data at this time.

Quint is right Mike. Once you make any changes to your plan (i.e. upgrade on or after June 28) then you will be forced to the tiered data plans. So at this time my best option is to go either the full retail price or eBay. Because from what I understand as long as you don't receive a "discounted" phone (sign a new contract) from Verizon you are allowed to keep your old plan.

I like how the carriers say unlimited data. There is no such thing as unlimited data. Try being a heavy user, and they throttle your speeds.
The carriers are pushing to get everyone on the smartphone wagon, yet they make the plans unaffordable,

My wife and I were disappointed to find out that we would have to spend $500 or more on a future phone to keep our plan. We both don't use that many minutes and texts but I average about 500MB a week since I surf at lunch and throughout the day.

I believe Sprint still offers Unlimited use on a smart phone and with no throttling. Of course you pay the price of slow speeds on Sprint. In every study I've ever read Sprint is dead last when it comes to mobile data speeds. You'll still get unlimited and no throttling but can you deal with the trade off of a slower speed mobile network.

I think Sprint solved the throttling problem by simply throttling everyone all the time. LOL....

But I don't like the ShareEverything Verizon plans. They are simply reshuffling the prices around to make you think you are getting more for less. In the end you realize you'd pay the same under the old plans. Same dog with different disguise.
